    Hi,

After much searching and gathering of information, I just want to check that what I am looking for does not exist before I go for a non-preferred solution.

I recently upgraded my x61s HDD to a 320GB disk so now have a spare SATA HDD. I use a lot of virtual machines and previously have not hosted them on external USB HDD due to speed, but research leads me to believe eSATA is 6x faster when used through a PCIe card...but I would prefer a card that fits within the slot, like this one but is an PCIe card rather than old PCMCIA...so my question is, does a PCIe card exisit that will not protrude (i.e. like this Belkin one)?!

    Many Thanks in advance
    Dan

Even with esata, you won't get 6x the transfer speed of USB for your HDD.

Your question is a bit confusing, are you looking for an expresscard esata controller?

Make 100% sure you have an expresscard slot. I also have the x61s and it has a pcmcia slot.

I haven't seen an expresscard slot that doesn't protrude.

Yes, I am/was looking for a expresscard esata controller that did not protrude, like the pcmcia one I posted

how can I check to be 100% sure as there are a lot of contradicting posts, even the model reviewed on NBF says expresscard slot...my model is 7668-CTO?

    Thanks in advance
    Dan

the X61, X61s, and X61T all have cardbus slots.   expresscard/54 wasn't an option until the X200 series.

Because PCMCIA is your only option, you can try and procure the exact model eSATA adapter you linked to.

However, you may find that FireWire (included on the x61s) provides as good, if not better, performance as a PCMCIA eSATA adapter.

that's the exact model I have also (7668-CTO) with Cardbus controller. There's plenty of esata cardbus that have flush connectors. Vantec, Startech, etc.
