Performance wise there won't be much of a difference.

The x61 is much more faster than the x60

It depends on what CPU you have for each model. A X60 can be faster than a X61 with the right CPU.

i don't have too much computer hardware knowledge, but i can definitely say anecdotally that the x61s is much faster than the x60s.

for example, i have 3 friends who recently ordered x60s or equivalent machines(2 of them ordered x60t's, but they use the same LV processor), and the girl who ordered the x60s traded hers in for an x61s. She's not a picky technologically savvy user, but the second she opened the x60s she complained that it was slow ("slower than her old Vaio"). I added another gig of RAM (to make it 2 gigs), and it was still incredibly slow. I even did a clean install of Windows, and it still ran slow. One of the guys who ordered the x60t thinks it's so slow that he rarely uses it ("since it's slower than his old Dell" according to him).

If you notice, the x60s actually runs the Core Duo (and not the Core 2 Duo Merom), so it's actually 2 generations behind.

I don't know if the hardware specs justify my feelings, but i would personally highly reccomend the x61s
