I just noticed this and I don't know if it has always been there or not. Right above the blue thinkvantage button, between the keyboard (bottom) part of the unit and the screen there is a ribbon like piece that is exposed (it is directly to the lower left of the lenovo logo below the monitor. Has this always been like this and I just never noticed? My notebook took a spill the other day and i've been a little paranoid since!

    thanks

Yes, it is designed like that. The ribbon is slightly exposed (in the small gap above the ThinkVantage button) on the ThinkPad X61/X61s.

Unless you try and cut it with a pair of scissors, you'll be fine. As for the spill, you could always remove the keyboard and check if there are "leftovers".

    You bet.

Forgot to mention (in case you don't know) that the X61/X61s has a spill proof keyboard, so unless you spilled a lot of liquid you are most likely fine.
