Well, it was bound to happen. They launched the Y400 and Y500 too close to haswell.

    They've got the Y410p listed with a HD+ 900p screen now. Nice.

The Y400 and Y500 actually launched last year at the end of August. They had only just recently updated to 750M GPU. Which I think is pretty cool. They could have just waited till Haswell to do that. Thinking about if I had waited to get my Y400 for the Y410p I am not sure I would pay the premium. I am very happy with my 750M Y400.

    Yes, it will fit.
No, it is not a good idea to try to install a new panel on your laptop.

The biggest problem with aftermarket do-it-yourself laptop panel installations is that you completely kill your warranty. And I don't mean from a contract-fine-print perspective. I mean that your warranty is nearly useless after you do an aftermarket laptop panel replacement. Because any kind of warranty repair your laptop needs that you cannot easily do yourself will probably require Lenovo to replace the motherboard. Best case scenario, you spend hours on the phone convincing Lenovo into sending you a motherboard that you install yourself. Worst case scenario, you send your entire laptop in for warranty replacement, and they just swap out the unit for another Lenovo Y400 (with the stock 768p screen).

About time Lenovo!!! Time to rid this world of those crappy low resolution 768p displays!!

Two thumbs up for the HD+ Panel!! Now i finally added y410 to my list of potential laptops to purchase in the 13-14" with dedicated upper mid range or better gpu with HD+ or FHD resolution.

    1.) M14x R3
    2.) MSI GE40
    3.) Lenovo Y410
    4.) Clevo 13"
    5.) Razer 14"

Only thing I'm worried about now is the battery life and lack of optimus.

Thank you for trying to strengthen my awareness.

Everything I own has been modified in some way, shape, or form. Preaching about warranties isn't going to stop me from trying the screen. I come from a Gateway 7805u that I upgraded the CPU, Motherboard, and Screen in. I work as a freelance technical consultant and to be honest if something breaks I am going to attempt to fix it myself first and if I cannot I will end up buying something else. I don't keep any of my electronics for long periods of time.

    Thank you again.

Makes sense. Good luck with whatever you try to do.

One more thing to consider... getting your hands on a 14" 900p panel will probably cost you a bit of cash.
You might want to check whether it makes more sense to just buy the individual part for a DIY modification, or whether it makes more sense to just sell your Lenovo Y400 and straight up buy a Lenovo Y410.

Grrr this is annoying, I just ordered my Y400 on 5/9 so I'm outside of the return window. I really want that 900p matte screen :(

The funny thing is when I placed my order through my EPP site for the 410P on Tuesday, it was not showing the 900P screen (for the same config), so I ended up cancelling that order and began looking at other options. I was starting to lean towards the MSI GE40 until I saw a post that pointed out the update to the specs. There is about a $400 difference between my EPP priced Y410P and the lowest price MSI GE40 and the only differences I can find are:

Slightly faster CPU (4702 vs 4700 I believe)

    Faster GPU (760M vs. 750M)

Slight weight difference ( assuming I am correct about the weight - 4.4lbs vs. 4.8lbs).

For those diferences, I will take the $400 savings unless I am missing something else...

Well considering the fact that Lenovo will be offering a 750M ultrabay add-on for the y400/410p in the future I'd say go with the y410p.

Yeah, I already re-ordered the Y410P, but that is a good point that with the SLI option (now or in the future), gives yet another "Pro" for the Lenovo. Not really seeing the point of the MSI anymore, at least at that price point.

Depends on what you do with it. With a rather low brightness, and most of the bloat cleaned out of the system, i managed to run a word processor for about 4hours and 45 minutes.

This was achieved due to Optimus technology, which is a hidden feature of the Yx10p series.

But if you are gaming, dont expect more than 2 hours.

I only reason I pulled back on buying the Y500 is because reportedly it gave around 3hrs of battery life when word processing / web browsing.
If the Y410p or the Y510p can give me ~5hrs, I would be more willing to buy it. And I plan to buy a single-GPU version (non-SLI).
