wondering if theres a way to keep dGPU on when laptop is unplugged. ive tried changing gloabal and individual settings in nvidia control panel and nothing helps. once i unplug the laptop the frames drop to an unplayable rate. i know its not the greatest idea to game on batt, but sometimes i want to jump in diablo3 real quick on the couch and too lazy to plug up.

it's not that you can't enable the dGPU while it's unplugged, it's most probably still enabled, it's just that on battery, the dGPU will clock down, because there's probably a limited amount of power that the battery can provide at once.
Battery is not for gaming
I am, however, merely theorising, so it would be good to get actual y410p owner experiences. -
ok. everything makes sense now. thank you

Since the battery cannot provide enough power to fully supply the GPU when unplugged, you are better off using the Intel 4600HD for gaming on the battery, it will deliver better performance. This case is not unique to the Y410p, but many other gaming laptops.

ok, thank you! and i'd also like to thank you jobine for your review of the y410p. it was the deciding factor for the purchase of this laptop.
