So my y470 arrived on Thursday (Sandy Bridge/Bluray version). I took it out of the box, everything was working great. I setup Windows, made a backup, did a clean windows 7 install and realized that I installed professional instead of home premium. I was researching if there was an easy fix for that when... It shuts off out of nowhere. I wasn't doing anything special, it just turned off.
It won't turn back on now, a day later. I've tried unplugging the battery, unplugging the AC adapter. I tried the one where you press the power button a few times and then hold it down. Nothing.
I'm wondering if anyone has encountered this issue before and solved it. It definitely sounds like a dead motherboard to me, but I wanted to be sure before I called a likely-useless tech support agent.

    Thanks.

Edit, I also noticed that it is warm-hot on the bottom side of the front-right corner, even though I can't turn it on. One of the screws is actually hot enough to burn me a little if I touch it.

My old x100e did the same thing and sure enough it needed a new motherboard. I would call for tech support to get the ball rolling. They will most likely write down what went wrong and send it out for repair rather than diagnosing the problem. Usually it's a quick turnaround time (Less than a week in some cases.) if the parts are available.

I wish you the best of luck!

The thing is, we leave for a vacation on Wednesday next week, so that might be a problem. But thanks, I'll call them.

You're going to be cutting it close. They do 1 day shipping but I doubt they are going to be working Monday. Hopefully with a little luck you'll get it before you leave.

You could upgrade your warranty for In-Home service to have a technician come fix it on the spot if you really need it and don't mind spending some extra $.

Yeah, it does need to be replaced :/. I'll just do it after we get back, or maybe ship it to a neighbor.
