As we all know, Lenovo originally advertised their y480 with a 650m. Should I simply give up waiting and purchase a Sony viao s with the 640m le, or should I gamble on the HP dvt 14" with the 650m? (HP seems to have a huge failure rate). What do you think I should do?

Does anybody know if they actually intend on releasing the 650m in the next few months? I need this laptop by august 16th.

You might have some luck if you were traveling to hong kong or china in the next few weeks. I posted a Lenovo ad touting the Y480 with the GT 650M DDR5 in the Y480/Y580 upcoming thread that is set to be for sale in Asia. I don't know when it will reach your neck of the woods.

I just found this on a Thai site:
    Lenovo IdeaPad Y480 [
Seems they already have the machine... Awesome :) . I keep fingers crossed so that it will hit your country until 16 August.
I am really happy to see this model finally... The perfect balance between size, performance and weight.
