    Hey guys,

I am shopping around for a new laptop and have it narrowed down to basically one laptop at this point (Toshiba p50), but was looking at the y50. The only thing that stops me from buying this laptop is the lack of a proper AC wireless card. 433mbps max throughput does not qualify as AC wifi to me. I have need for the higher speed of AC wifi on my LAN and this laptop is perfect save for the abysmal wireless card Lenovo used. I know that Lenovo locks their BIOS down hard, so hard that the machine will not boot if you do not use a "lenovo approved" wireless card in the system. So my question is, have any of you purchased this laptop and used it with an intel 7260AC (off the shelf) without needing a custom BIOS? Honestly this is the only thing that is stopping me from going with the Lenovo over the Toshiba.

    TIA

This might help. Haven't read through it yet but I'll edit this post with anything I find.

EDIT: The 7260 is on the whitelist for the Yoga 2 Pro so I would guess it's compatible with the Y50. Definitely read the rest of the post though--it details how to do it.

EDIT 2: Also this link. Gibberish to me, but it explains how to remove the whitelist for this model if needed. It will be a custom BIOS though...

433Mbps per stream, with a total of 867Mbps because there are two.
    Isn't it enough?

The 3160 is 1x1, which means it peaks at 433mbps. The 7260 and 7265 is 2x2 meaning it peaks at 867mbps:

    Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 Plus Bluetooth*

I found a model on newegg that includes the 7260 for anyone who may be looking:

    Lenovo Y50 4K (59425943) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Newegg.com

and it looks like there was just a price drop. This whitelisting practice has to stop :(. I have had good experience with the 7260, but a lot of people seem to have had issues.

7260 is a good item, some people have driver issues so you will need to make sure to update it when you get it.
Also, compatibility with certain router, therefore update the firmware to reduce this chance.
