    Hi guys,
I recently cloned my 1TB HDD to my 128GB Plextor mSata SSD in lieu of performing a full recovery or a fresh installation of windows on my mSata SSD.
The software I used to do this is Macrium Reflect, I copied all of the partitions including WINRE_DRV, SYSTEM_DRV, LRS_ESP, and Windows8_OS. The Windows8_OS was shrunken down to fit my 128GB HDD leaving some unallocated space on my 1TB.
I left out the Lenovo (D) an PBR_DRV because there were two unallocated spaces between them which prevented me from copying them onto my SSD.
Here's a photo to better explain this:
After setting my BIOS to Legacy Support and changing the boot order to my mSata SSD First and 1TB Hard Drive 2nd, Secure Boot is off (although this was probably not needed).
Anyways, I saved changes and exited BIOS, system boots up and I received the message:

    For Atheros PCIE v2.1.1.1 (12/21/11)
    Check Cable Connection!
    PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No Bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key.

The same thing already happened before I did a complete system recovery through Lenovo OneKey Recovery while following the steps described above. I honestly do not know what is wrong, could this be due to a defected mSata SSD (I was able to copy and paste large files onto it for testing purposes).
Thanks for your time and help, I really appreciate it.

I don't understand. Why use legacy mode? If you clone it the drive schema should stay the same.

I'll be doing this Monday, when my Y500 arrives. So please tell us how this was resolved, when that happens. Thanks.

Look at boot order in the BIOS, it may be set to boot from network first. If not, see where the mSATA SSD is located in the boot order, and set it first. Also, press the novo button when powered off, then attempt to boot from the SSD during boot time bootable device selection. Basically, it's either the SSD isn't in the right boot order, or it isn't properly cloned, so you can't boot from it.

Same error message, but mine is a Y580 + M4 mSATA. I posted about it in the Y580 thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/672154-y580-owners-thread-251.html#post9256978

If you follow the link you can see I have taken out my HDD, tried all sorts of UEFI/Legacy/Secure Boot/AHCI scenarios as well as formatting the drive as GPT, recovery disks and recovery disks + partitions, cloning, etc. Nothing.

I got an email from Crucial last night and they want me to re-initialize the drive as MBR, clone over (better: Install but as you know Lenovo does NOT give us install disks / ISOs), and then boot in Legacy mode.

In Legacy mode I CAN select the SSD as a Bootable Drive **but** UI get the same error you do.

Let me know how you solve it!

    ISSUE RESOLVED!
omg, thank you so much for all the help and support guys.
I found out what the problem is:
DO not boot with Legacy Support, keep it at UEFI with boot order being SSD first.
You can access BIOS with F2.
If anyone else is having problems please let me know and I will respond promptly.
Please just follow all of the steps above regarding cloning your HDD to SDD using a cloning program such as Macrium.
Again, keep it at UEFI, I also have Secure Boot disabled.
Do not boot with Legacy Support.
My computer is lightning fast now!

Exactly, it made no sense to me to use legacy when the system drive defaults to UEFI. Cloning the drive would keep the format and drive geometry so that's all you should have to do. My system boots in less than 8 seconds. Glad you got it working.

    Cheers,

Panzer, thank you so much for your suggestion on how Legacy support is not needed.
Your post certainly got it my mind while I was playing with BIOS lol.
    You da man!

OK, received the Y500, deleted McAfee and Office, downloaded Macrium Reflect and easybcd, turned off and removed battery and DVD drive, removed bottom cover without breaking any tabs, Plextor 5M5 didn't come with M2 screw but found one on an old broken laptop (see, there WAS a reason to keep it) and secured the card, closed up turned back on and...

Windows didn't recognize it and assign it a letter, rebooted twice, still nothing. The drive appears under File Management. I initialized it as an MBR drive, rebooted and, although it shows up in the file management utility it does not show up as a drive anywhere else.

According to the instructions I'm trying to follow the drive has to have a drive letter installed to proceed. HELP!!!

I had to create a New Simple Volume. Now I have a drive letter.

Next problem. The guide Triple Your Speed: How to Install an mSATA SSD Boot Drive in Your Laptop simply states that after shrinking your Windows 8 C: drive, it will be smaller than your SSD. His example for Win7 came out to 73GB. My "Total size after shrink" is 455GB. The only software I've loaded otherr than Macrium and easybcd is Chrome. I guess I'll defrag.

add-> same result after defrag ??? Total files on C: is 24GB

Disk Manager didn't work but EaseUS Partition Manager did, and also downloaded an extra utility that I didn't want.

    Back on track.

The BIOS looks nothing like the guide. Can't see the drives much less change the boot order. Here's what mine looks like:

I think that's the UEFI boot manager vs the legacy boot manager. I'm not in from of it to check but I think that's it.

actually after cloning win8 to the msata it showed up in BIOS, the problem I have now is that when I boot up using the msata it says windows needs to be repaired but when I try to repair it it says the disk is locked...

Found the problem, I had forgot to shrink C to the size of the SSD!
Now everything works wonderfully, windows boots up in 10 seconds :)
