16 gig is a msata. It works with the harddrive with intel smart response technology and can go up to 64 gigs. Basicly makes your harddrive a hybrid. Only have one hardrive and one msata slot. Looking at a dollar a gig for msata about. Best bet is to get a 256 msata leave 32 gigs for smart response and clone your hardrive over.

Correct. Use the mSATA slot to install an SSD. Put your OS, applications, and games onto that.

Keep your current 2.5" 1TB 5400rpm mechanical HDD installed on your machine. Wipe it out, and use it as bulk media storage (music, videos, movies, pr0n).

The two models of mSATA SSDs to look at are Crucial M4 or Plextor M5M in 256GB capacities for about $200 USD. Don't bother getting 128GB size. You don't save all that much money, and it is relatively difficult to upgrade an mSATA from 128GB --> 256GB (hard to re-use an mSATA drive into another system or resell a used mSATA, because of the relative rarity of machines that can use an mSATA port).

Plextor m5m is faster, but the crucial m4 is more widely known. That Is all

Mushkin is a good brand, not sure why there's no recognition. good price too.

Because Mushkin is a relatively small player in system memory, SSDs, and mSATA SSDs.

Yes, they make quality products. And I'm sure they work just fine. But all other things being equal, I'd rather own an mSATA SSD (a relatively new form factor for SSDs) that is widely used by other people. That fact is worth about a 10% price premium.
