    Hello,

What are your thoughts on the y530 with 4 gig ram and a t5800 Core 2 Duo processor? I'm upgrading from an HP DV6324.

    Thanks!

    Kelly

As a new owner of a Y730, I just put my vote in for the ThinkPad. I use a ThinkPad for work but got the IdeaPad for home because they don't offer a (reasonably priced) ThinkPad with a 17" screen (using as a desktop replacement). I believe the ThinkPad uses better parts. I had to exchange my first Y730 because it had a bad keyboard and DVD drive. The replacement had a bad keyboard. I sent it off for repair and it seems to be working now. So I've used ThinkPads for 4 years at work without a single problem and I've had an IdeaPad for 4 weeks and have had 3 problems. I don't have any experience with HP though, so I can't compare to that.

My son has the ideapad and its a pretty nice set up. My only complaints are the glossy screen and the front edge of the keyboard area. The way I use a notebook (usually on the couch with my wrists on the front edge) is very uncomfortable on the ideapad. I was very impressed with how cool the system stays though. I'm planning on buying a thinkpad for myself in the near future.
