Im very interested in the Lenovo y550p. Im looking to upgrade from my g530 to this laptop but am considering a few other machines. the Asus ul50vt, g1vx-rx05 or an xps 15.

    y550p's specs are i7 cpu with a gt240m 1gb card. 4gb of ddr3 and a 500 gb hd for $999.

Anyone seen any reviews or ratings on this?

I had just the normal 550 and didn't like it much. Obviously that's just my opinion, but after having needed a replacement lenovo for all my graphics card issues, I guess you can't expect much else.

I own one and it is amazing for the performance. The GPU handles most games on high settings at good framerates. The i7 is FAST. For example, on my old tablet pc which had a C2D T7200 2GHz, it would take about 40 minutes to do a render in SketchUp but now it only takes about 7 minutes. The build quality isn't the best, but it feels solid. People say the speakers are bad, but coming from a tablet, I love them. I haven't had any issues yet so it's hard to say anything bad about it.

I don't own one, but I played with one at Fry's. My biggest concern was the warm air blowing out the side vent. The i7 is pretty powerful, so it naturally runs warmer. Also, the top lid flexed when you poked at it from the outside, but most laptops I tested did that too.

Other than that, it looks nice, the keyboard felt good to me, and the keypad was smooth and responsive. The speakers were adequately loud, but I didn't play any real music (too many people around! lol). The screen was good for me.

Play with one if you can...Also Newegg reviews can give you some indication of what it's like.
