My lenovo has quite a serious issue, literally every game i have has unexplainable fps drops, for instance while in crysis i had 30fps staring a tree, without moving at all or doing anything it will alternate between that and 15 constantly.
On fallout 3 i have 45fps staring at a stick, while not moving or absolutely nothing in background moving it again alternates frame rate from 19 to 45.
Ive tried the stock ati driver, ive tried 10.5 driver, then 10.7 driver and all of them still do those fps drops, and it occurs on all other games i own other then some easy to run games, for instance portal seems to be unaffected.
Ive tried switching between power modes, ive also custom configed power modes and made sure the ati 5730 was set for performance, pci was set for performance, and cpu was set to be max performance, but nothing helps.
And finally i had task manager open during these games and the cpu never goes above about 70% and i always have plenty of memory left.
EDIT: update.. ive checked and directx is up to date and non of my components have ever gotten above 83c, but i found something odd
i used hdtune and these are the results
min 20mb/s
max 65mb/s
avg 50mb/s
access 19ms
burst 51mb/s
Now the occurance of these drops to 20mb/s is at about the same speed, and frequency of the fps drops in my games, but i dont see how dips in hard drive affect game performance when nothing should be loading. And also the hard disk drive activity light does not come on ever, and closing the lid doesnt seem to put it in sleep mode anymore, i tried the lenovo all in 1 driver update but it does not run so now i am looking for all the drivers to update.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would assume that even if you are not moving/not doing anything, the hard drive would still be running. Something seems a miss with your hard drive. Even when you are on the desktop idle the hard drive light should be flickering once and a while. If you have an extra hard drive sitting around, pop it in and see if you get the same results. If you don't, I would send it to get fixed.

It seems to be almost fully solved now, the pci settings for some reason reset, after clicking off to the "link state power managment" it has not done the fps drops, now all that happens is very occasional fps dips to about 20 then back up to 30 during crysis but it seems completely normal and only when looking at large open spots. and on fallout 3 i have not noticed any thing wrong at all now.
Incase you have this laptop and get this problem, right click on battery symbol at bottom right choose "power options", go to "change plan settings" on the one you want, then click on advanced and scroll down to pci and turn the "link state power managment off".
Now im looking into the hd tune results but after looking at some other graphs it doesnt seem that far off from them, and im trying to figure out why the hd light and wireless light indicator arent on.
Im now trying various other games to see if i experience frame rate dips
okay here is my hdtune results, are the dips in speed serious or is it okay because 20mb/s is decent still...
Okay now on the health it seems to show a warning, however im not sure what to think because i recall my now 6 year old computer had that error from the first day and the hard drive lasted fine for 6 years..
However once clicked on notice the status at the bottom says that its ok, is this something to be worried over?..
y560 all games fps drops, cant solve issue!
