Tried to install new 1 GB memory chip on the brand new z60m. It looks like the other slot is defective and when memory is installed into that defective slot the laptop would not even start up, not even a blink or anything on the screen, very strange, I thought even if one of the slots os broken, the other one is fine and it should at least get me to bios/diagnostics, but it behaves like it is a dead body. as soon as I put memory in the working slot everythng is just fine...
any comments? am I missing something here?

I suppose the first thing to rule out is the new memory isn't defective or incompatible to the Z60. I'm sure you've also checked the card is seated completely in the contacts. I just installed memory in my Z60 and found I had to give it a little push to seat properly.

Yes, i checked that, the memory is compatible and works fine in the other slot. it is a slot issue, no doubt, the question is why the computer wont start even to bios if i have memory chips in 2 slots, one of which is completely functional...
I think it snugs in pretty nicely, does not seem like i could push further into the slot.. -
I registered for this forum just to respond to you, because I have the exact same problem.. but on a different model.
I just received my T60p today, alongside a new 1gb stick of DDR sent by Lenovo. As I attempt to upgrade the stock 1gb by adding in the second into slot 2 (the top SODIMM slot), I don't get a POST.
When swapping out this purchased stick with the factory installed memory, it works fine, proving that both memory modules are fine. I'm wondering if this is a BIOS-related issue? -
I tend to think it is a software/firmware related problem, as normally even if the slot is defective it shoul dbe able to at least do the post and say that there is something wrong, but it just stays like there is no power. In my case it is the lower slot though that is not working. What else is strange is that the factory installed chip was installed in the top slot and I wonder why...as if someone tried the lower, it didnt work and he then installed it into another slot. The others that I have seen/upgraded all had their memory installed in the lower slot which makes sense. Really weird, submitted a service request, we'll see what happens
z60m memory upgrade failure
