I am trying to decide between this machine:
    http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/s...storeId=10000001&langId=-1&partNumber=2529R5U

and a more expensive Pentium M with 128 MB graphics.
    The difference is about $400

Mainly I want notebook for surfing www, using spreadsheet & word processsor, watching dvds etc..., but I'd like to be able to run photoshop on it as well.
The question: is photoshop going to run too slow on this machine? or is it going to be an ok machine for ocassional photoshopper?

if celeron is OK, how much rum should I put in it? is 1.5GB ok, or should I make it 2GB?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Personally I would stay away from Celeron processors and go for the Pentium M, better battery life and powerful processor even though you won't see many Pentium M's around once Memrom makes it mainstream. Everything will be Core Duo, and then Core Duo 2 as the standard. Celeron and Pentium M's are being phased out quickly from most retail outlets.

It will be slower, but I guess it depends on what you are doing in Photoshop.

Core Duo notebook prices have dropped alot since they were launched so I think it might be a wiser purchase. Like I saw a Lenovo 3000 N100 with T2300 for around $899+ only.

    :)

But judging from the reviews the 3000 series don't have very good screen.
Is that correct? does z60m have better screen?

The screen on the one I review for was pretty decent I thought, but it was glossy. Build quality on the n100 is better.

My bad, I meant to say the Z was better built.
