I finally received z60t. But I'm not too excited about....
Pros:
- Widescreen and display quality is good
- Titanium cover looked nice and sturdy
- Excellent keyboard (solid and quiet) and pointing device
- Heat issue not yet found on it
- Processor is easy to upgrade
Cons:
- Brightness is really disappointing
- Thickness is about the same as BX Series 1.3inch
- Does not close entirely because the latch is a piece of cheap plastic and not strong enough to snatch the screen and base together
- Crappy graphic chipset
- Not enough volume loudness
- Overall bad quality casing (only mine I think)
- Same battery life as BX Series which is about 3 hour
- Doesn't fit or barely fit into IBM carring case organizer which came with z60t for free![]()
- Very slow DVD-Multi burner compared to BX
Brightness is a disappointment but it is acceptable. I don't need a very bright screen for me to work, but for sure it is not ideal for DVD movie playback. Battery life is only up to 3 hour for my usage and it is not something I'm very happy with. The worse is, due to the latch is made with a cheap plastic. It is not strong enough to close notebook properly. Because of this, front view of the notebook is embrassing to look at. I've seen T43, and its really high quality built notebook, but with the z60t that I have, I would say it is an average quality notebook.

This is very discourageing.I was hoping the Z60m I ordered to be top notch like other IMBs.

You can check out the Sony BX and Lenovo z60t pics here http://photos.yahoo.com/rz8168
IMG_7643 and IMG_7644
7643 is me pressing it to force it seal properly
7644 is without any pressure on it.
I was satisfied with it disregarding the brightness issue. But as soon as I looked at the front view, I know I have to return this notebook with a huge disappointment. -

I noticed the clips when I first went to see the z60t at officemax. They were pretty flimsy, and had decent amount of play inside the screen lip. I am guessing that the z60m won't have this problem to a degree because it is a hell of a lot larger and doesn't have the space concerns as much.
Hmm, keep the z60m order going, or buy a nifty Miller Syncrowave 200 -
Thats weird, I don't notice a big gap in mine...unless im blind
I have different opinions though, I've found the screen brighter than my old laptop (Sony Z1 Series). The speakers on the z60t are much much louder than my old sony. I've found it very sturdy and very promising. Dunno, maybe theres different batches. -
I agree. Z60m shouldn't have similar problem. I've looked at abaxter's z60t review, he doesn't seem to have similar problem like mine. I saw the picture he took at front view of z60t, it is hard to tell but it looks closed properly and doesn't have any gap. I went to see laptoplogic.com and read their review. They have a close up picture of front side, and the z60t they had seemed to be having same problem. I don't know if this applies to all z60t or is my z60t happen to be a bad one.

Look at mine. If that so I have to sent it and have it exchanged. Left one has no pressure on it. Right one is that I pressed it.
-
your gap is definitely noticeable. that can't be right. mine is uniform throughout the notebook. i would have it exchanged. does it have a gap when u lay it down? maybe it shows cause ur holding the middle?
-
I add two more pics
-
Oh crap. This notebook has taken a month to get here. If I exchange this, it will take another month. Do they offer advance replacement?
-
yep its different from mine. i guess yours was just a bad one.
-
I really have no idea. im sure it will be faster after christmas.
heres another
pic -
yours looked perfectly normal and mine obviously isn't.

with all these headaches with Lenovo, I'm rather glad I ended up going with my Asus. my z63a is definitely a very pretty laptop. Funny thing, when I went to cancel my Z60t order, the number to call they gave me on the confirmation e-mail wasn't even the right one. Turns out it was the number for Lenovo USA, not Canada.
-
that's terrible, returning it would take a long time given the shipping delays they currently have. I guess the optioin is to return it and get a different notebook, or return it and play the waiting game again to get a new one -
Yeah I was thinking about getting another notebook. I should get Sony BX with x700 version.
-
I agree about the latch feeling a bit flimsy. Although, i'm not having the gap problem rz is having. I found the screen to be better than what I was expecting from the review and the finish is pretty good. Not as smooth feeling as my t41p, but I'm not at all disappointed with the z60t.
-
if you like widescreen, you can consider sony A59.
After all, its 17" wuxga screen is very smart
Perhaps it is a best choice except the price.
If you want to change z60, you'd better to make sure the time needed by asking the lenovo.
anyway, take a good time -
hello guys, i just came back from snowboarding... woohoo...
happy new year guys... anyway.. I really want to give z60t another try.. but waiting another 4 weeks of shipment after I returned the bad one is pretty outrageous to me. I was checking out lenovo's website and see z60s doesn't have "2-4 weeks" noted under the price tag anymore... does that mean it will be shipped within a week? If so, I think I can wait for another week for z60t. I will cancel BX and give z60t another try. -
yea,
now z60t are shipping within a week, even though the order status said 1/16/06 in one of the orders i knew, they shipped it on 24th of Dec.
I am afraid.......due to bad review ,everybody is cnacelling the orders......hope not so.
