Are they interchangeable. I just got the z61t and will probably get an x61s or x62s in the future(hopefully they will have a higher resolution screen) I'm also thinking about an t61p but am wondering if this dvd writer will fit in the x61s and t61p

I don't think so. I once tried the R61's DVD drive on my X6 ultra base and it just won't fit. Then again, the R61 is bulkier than the z61t and t61p. Try finding the drive on an online shop that shows compatibility to different notebooks.

I don't think you're gonna see a higher resolution on the X61 unless it goes wide which will offer a modest bump in resolution. Unless of course you'd consider the X61t.

I believe the Z61t uses the 9.5mm height drive just as the X and T series do so it should fit. The R and Z61m use the fatter 12.7mm height drive.
