I am going to be calling lenovo asap to try and work some magic (yeah right) and get the screen replaced for free.
In the mean time, I am looking at places that will sell me the display I want for a reasonable price.
Obviously, ebay has a lot of options but many or most with very little info. "z61t screen" yields a few results..
Anyone know the scoop on these sellers or the screens they are selling
Or a reccomendation for a cheap screen from ebay or elsewhere?
I know one of those is glossy and one is matte. I think I might prefer a gloss screen this time around (despite what I once believed) watching DVD's or really looking at it at all is just alot more pleasant.
Besides the gloss issue - I just dont want to get stuck dropping 100 bucks on a piece of junk display. How bad could I get? If the screen was working well and fits, could it REALLY be any dimmer than my stock screen?
On a side note..anyone know how to make the z61t speakers audible? /sigh
Thanks a lot for the help

Maybe i'll just wing it..

A couple hours is hardly enough time to legitimately expect a response. 24 hours is required to pass before bumping your thread. Please read the forum rules. You agreed to them when you created your account.
The other place I'd look if you're a budget would be the Marketplace forums on ThinkPads.com. Just post over there asking if anyone has a screen. They tend to be very honest over there as opposed to the way they can be vague on eBay, especially the sellers who've been there a while. Both screens are matte.
When did your speakers go inaudible? -
My speakers were inaudible from the factory. As opposed to my t20 speakers which are great that I can hear on the highway, I can hardly watch a DVD in my bedroom and hear the z61t speakers, though it is possible. In a good sized room with more than two people, the noises from moving on the couch or chips being consumed overcome the output on the z61t and I do know about available system sound settings.
Its a shame that most PC laptops seem to overlook decent speakers all together. I am a fan of all good machines, including macs. I do not like mac OS all that much, but the speakers on their laptop actually produce audible noise, as opposed to the majority of PC laptops. It's embarrassing.
My apologies about the second post - It was mostly a joke and the 24 hour rule is more or less a standard as far as forums go, and is something I was aware of. Post wasnt to be at the top, pretty sure I posted in other threads afterwards.
Either way, sorry about the bad first impression. Thanks for the lead, I will check that out.
One of the ebay sellers actually responded to me and told me he was selling a samsung screen, which cant be that bad. Definitely will check out the forums over there first
Thanks a ton. -
Just curious, why didn't you call Lenovo when you got it? My R60's speakers aren't half bad. The problem with them is they're on the front facing slightly downward. Sometimes they can get muffled. The Z61t and R60 are pretty similar notebooks. I wouldn't be surprised if they used the same parts.

These speakers are as weak as the z60m my dad had and the z61t he now has. And as weak as the speakers in every laptop in circuit city, and office depot (just tried them out one day to see if any had acceptable volume)
They get loud enough if you are in a room with no persistent noise. In a car? Forget about it. Unfortunately it is not the case with all the mac laptops I have encountered. I kind of talked someone out of a mac and into this sweet thinkpad. But there was nothing I could say except to apologize for the speakers which are simply not loud enough. They get by, but they yearn for some decibels just like almost everything else. My t20 can almost hurt my ears.
I even found that with headphones they cant get loud enough on the highway to be heard comfortably, depending on how compressed your audio is.
I dont want to be one of those people that relishes the old days and hangs on to slow computers, but they were built better, and their speakers were functional.
But I can excuse some robustness for light weight and high performance. But I cant help but mention that there are some other companies making laptops with decent speakers. I haven't tried the current line of macbooks though so I dont know about them. They are getting pretty thin, so maybe they arent as loud in their most recent models either. I dont know. I wouldnt own one unless I got it for a smokin deal but with the worship of their fans its pretty tough to find a cheap mac laptop.
The speakers complaint is something I have about current laptops in general. I dont like useless hardware, for example a fingerprint reader is a negative for me when looking at buying a laptop, I dont want the thing. With laptops, I almost dont want the speakers because they dont do their job well.
I love these newer thinkpads though. -
I got mine from ebay, but i made sure to see the the fru# in the pic. I paid 125$ for mine you just cant beat that, never go through lenovo for lcd panels they wull rape you.

Thanks a lot. Found a seller that responds to my emails reasonably quickly and answers my Q's well.
I will post on the thinkpad forum first though. Thanks for that link (thinkpad forum) it is priceless! I knew a sweet forum like that was around...Just didnt know where.
