In the quest to get the R200 config I want I've seen countless descriptions mentioning the X2300 and the X2400HD. I've also seen reports on forums that the X2400 was a mistake and the notebooks only come with the X2300.
The reality? BOTH are available. Some configs have the X2300 and some have the X2400. The X2400 availability is recent, a new config was just released in Korea (R200-TP75K) which has the better GPU. The previous config (SP73K) only had the 2300.
We'll see what holds true for Canada; it's a market by market issue and some European markets have only the 2300 (Spain, Portugal) while others get both (Germany, Austria). Interestingly, I don't see a Sideshow configured notebook for sale in Korea at all whereas it's heavily promoted in Europe.
Here's the official LG graphic that we've seen so many times for their other notebooks.
-
pretty impressive for a 12.1" notebook.
-
I'll be interested to see how the HD2400 compares to the 8400M models.
And this R200 looks like the successor to the Z1, is that right? -
Yep, it's the Santa Rosa refresh. I only wish I knew if one was coming for the T1... doesn't seem as though much changed at all externally between the Z1 and the R200 (which is a GOOD thing).
-
Are there some benchmarks for the lg r200 with the hd2400?
I come from Austria and I think we can only buy it with the hd2400
edit: supports this GPU directx 9.0c or directx 10? -
it supports both direct 10 and direct 9.0c
-
Good news, but there is still one thing I don't like about the Z1/R200 series: low battery time
-
Not sure about the battery time but I am always near an outlet so it's not so much a concern. I rarely work off battery. I'll know for sure here in about a week to two. They're supposed to have my unit in stock tomorrow, if so they ship it. If not, I'm going to Frankfurt the first weekend in November and will just pick it up.
Incidentally... I had ZERO clue Avis rented Porsche 911s there. Let's see... do I want a VW Fox... a Mercedes E220 (itty bitty 4 banger) or a Porsche. Gee I wonder. -
Does somebody know if the r200 will be equipped with the robson flash memory?
-
Anyone knows where can I buy this beauty in Germany?
I live in Munich, but I could also order it, europe wide.
And noob question:
If I buy it with vista os in german, can I change the language of the interface in english?
Thanks a lot for your patience -
schon probiert

Been working with Kai at Notebook.de (Notebook Shop). Seem like great people... my R200 isn't in yet but should be in any day. I'm going to be in Frankfurt next weekend so am just picking the thing up rather than having them ship it...
-
-
I also done some checking for that robson matter and it seems that it will be absent in some r200 models
-
Well, at least in the Middle East, this isn't the case.
-
Well, it will be very nice although the lg importer told me that only the r500 will include intel flash memory, anyway I ordered the r200 and when it will arrive I will write a review, -
-
He is in Israel which is probably part of LG's ME distribution network and the ME units have Robson onboard, as well.
Anyone have any benchies vs the 8400M? -
Yeap this pretty much confirms it.

Well i got the R200, unfortunately the robson memory is absent.
-
I had a friend grab me a QSideshow model from Singapore. The German R200 hasn't shipped yet. I guess they've had some delays... the Singaporean unit has the 2300 supposedly but has the 1GB Robson module. What I'm gonna do with it once the German unit comes in I dunno. Been thinking about having them hold that one off and getting the Asus U6 instead. BUT... I also know the U6 will be much much cheaper here. Decisions decisions. Either way I'll FINALLY have an R200 Thursday.
-
aviman, that is very odd. Did you get it from a dealer in Israel?
-
This is my first impression:
CPU: T7100
2G RAM
HDD: fujitsu MHW2120BH
wireless card: Intel 3945bg
Graphic card: Mobility Radeon X2400HD
Win vista bis
Well i am very impressed, the HDD is fast for 5400rpm drive, boot time and program load time are fast. SO fast that i almost don't fill the differences from 7200 rpm drive.
The graphic card is good i was able to run heroes 5 and Company of Heroes
in high resolution and high detail. I wanted to give you some result from 3dmark06 / pcmark05 but from some reason those programs stuck when they are loaded??? the screen is good and the viewing angels. The bottom of the laptop are gating too hot so it's a problem to put it on the lap.
I didn't find any use for the dual display.
Over all i think it is a good laptop that i will recommend.
If you got question or wont me to run some game let me know. -
Yep, configurations vary widely from country to country. The Singaporean version is an X2300 but has a T7200 2.0Ghz proc and 2GB RAM. The German notebook FINALLY shipped out and I'll have *it* on the 21st. So now I get to figure out what to do with the FIRST R200. I knew this'd happen...

Greetings,
I am considering buying an LG R200. Could anyone please explain to me the difference between the Radeon X2400HD and the X2300HD (Besides that one number)? As far as I have read, the only difference is, that X2400HD supports DirectX 10. Since I will be running Linux (and perhaps running a dual-boot to Windows XP to play an occational game, such as Warcraft III), and since DirectX 10 is a Vista-exclusive "feature", then I may not gain anything from choosing X2400HD over X2300HD.
(Whether it is called X2300HD, X2300, 2300, or 2300 HD, I honestly don't know -- I have seen all combinations around on websites. Where I am considering buying the notebook, the graphics card is referred to as a "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 with up to 896MB HyperMemory". The notebook's model number is LG R200-DCPTTV. I wish to know what the gain is in picking the notebook LG R200-D.CBRAG, for instance, which has X2400HD).
Kind regards,
TheSatori.
p.s. and how do these two perform compared to Intel's new GMA?
p.p.s. I have just read that 2300 HD is the "value" version which uses shared memory, while the 2400 HD is the mainstream version with dedicated memory, The notebook has plenty of memory; how big of a performance drop is it for a card to use shared memory as opposed to using dedicated memory? -
I herd that there is some problem issue regarding ati and linux but I don't know for sure. you better look it up. it seems that LG R200-D.CBRAG is powerful machine but expensive one , you can look for this Model : R200-D CPRBG also. for difference between the card you can look in http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-2400.3773.0.html

I attached pdf file. The score for the graphic card is the same as x2300. So I think it's a driver issue.Attached Files:

Sounds like it. That score is even worse than the current drivers for the Intel X3100 graphics!

At long last I FINALLY got my R200 a few weeks ago. Haven't had much time to play with it but finally have it dual booting in XP and Vista after a looot of effort. 3DMark scores with the latest Catalyst 7.11 drivers modded for use with the Mobility chip were 1430 (average of 3 runs, not much variance). With the stock LG drivers the scores were more around 1200. Haven't tried it in Vista.
It works decently but I have an 8800GTX on my desktop and my main home notebook has a 7950GTX so EVERYTHING else feels slow. For LOTRO players, I can run in Medium mode and get very smooth gameplay and frame rates. If I turn on most of the eyecandy (2xAA, etc) I get marginal but do-able rates. WoW runs at max for everything and turns in 15-25FPS. I can turn it down and get 35-40 but it looks great at max and the frame rate is workable.
Oddly for a subnotebook it uses a 12.7mm drive. I was able to easily swap out the drive for a Blu-Ray unit. WOW do movies look awesome. The screen is gorgeous, especially after the ever prevalent blue push (EVERY notebook I've ever owned skews way too blue) is taken out. Happily, it also means that as new drives come out I can swap them at will... no waiting for the super-slim 9.5mm version to roll out or paying through the nose to get one. The hard drive, memory and optical drive are all accessible from the bottom. NOTHING needs to be disassembled. In fact, the HDD comes out without any screws! Makes sense... the rubber surround holds it inside quite tightly and lack of screws means isolation. It's still very secure... and DAMN is it pretty. LG makes the most gorgeous notebooks. The sideshow display ain't useful but it looks really really cool. -
A relatively loaded one is on sale here for around $1600 with a T7300 and 160GB HDD but only 1GB of RAM. I don't get LG's marketing strategy. They have effed up part numbers for every fricking country where they have distribution. Why not keep major part numbers the same across regions? It's tough to make an apples-to-apples comparison.
I agree it is a nice laptop and slide show is kind of useless. I decided against it for two reasons: 1) It doesn't have a camera and 2) It doesn't have a TPM chip or fingerprint sensor. The latter, especially, is a glaring omission IMHO, in a pricey subnote of this caliber.
CONFIRMED!: R200 IS available with Mobility Radeon X2400HD
