    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this question. I'm thinking about changing the hard drive in my E300 and this is the model

Seagate Momentus Gforce 7200.4 500GB 2.5IN SATA 7200RPM 16MB Notebook Hard Drive OEM

It is available at NCIX. I'm just wondering how to tell if it will be compatible with the laptop, are all hard drives (2.5) compatible with every laptop?

your lappy looks new enough to not have PATA drives, so yes, that Seagate drive should fit just fine. regarding the size, 2.5" drives (the standard size for notebooks) come in 9.5mm and 12.5mm flavors IIRC, but the latter is very rare. so basically, yeah, all 2.5" drives will fit in any notebook (as long as PATA/SATA compatibility is given).

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'll tell people how it turned out once I've completed it. Do you think there will be any speed improvement over the stock hard drive, should I go with a 7200 or slower? what about the effects on battery life

battery life will definitely be shorter and the vibration may be larger causing discomfort. unless you are using for performance wise, there is no need to use such a high rpm drive for laptops. you can check the specs for the wattage of each actions of the drives.

you can only buy 9.5mm in height drives.
