from the translated german review it seems that the Negatives of this notebook are:
-poor display
-too hot
-mediocre battery
can someone who owns one offer some input on this plz? -

I have it now for one week. I am glad with it.
1. The Display is better than the Sony SZ6 was. No dead Pixel, just a little leeking . . .
2. You can set the fan speed by pressing FN + F11: Cool, Normal and quiet. Even on cool it is more quiet than my old Sony SZ6 was and the XPS 1330 from a friend. In quiet mode it is warm at the bottom -> but my SZ was warmer . . .
3. Under full core gaming the battery works 2:15 with full brightness and all wireless on! With only Internetsurfing and half Display I got 3:23 hours . . .
Greetings, Sascha
PS. with actual driver you get over 3.400 3DMark06 Points! -
thanks mythbuster,
i've seen the LED display in person and really I don't see what's suppose to be bad about it.
As for the heat issue, does it ever get hot to touch? or really warm such that you gotta move your hand off of it once in awhile?
the internet surfing 3.23 hrs and gaming 2:15hr isn't stellar but i mean given what's in this laptop those times are good times and should definitely serve to be a welcomed sigh of relief. certainly doesn't deserve the negative connotation associated with the word 'mediocre'
i think the review was some what inappropriately critical because it was written with the wrong p300 target consumer in mind. (i noticed it kept talking about mobile business professionals)
imo as a university student, I really want a cool good looking, something that makes a statement portable laptop that i can bring to lecture, library, friend's house etc, it must also be fast since at times i do go into more intensive programs, also it must be able to play games, lastly, it must have good value..
i think if you look at it from this point of view, the contending laptops are Macbook Air, Lenovo Thinkpad x300, and Dell XPS M1330 (non of which was used as comparable benchmarks in the review). I think the beauty of the LG is that by externalizing the Optical drive, something which I NEVER use (since every student pretty much downloads all music/movies/software..) it is able to offer something in a form factor & weight class comparable w/ the Air and x300 but inside it is able to offer the performance of its bigger& heavier distant cousins (faster than the dell xps m1330, same GPU as most high end 15.4" laptops!)
so summing up i really wish someone can write a review from this perspective -

I have also a XPS 1730 which I really love -> but this small Subnotebook makes really fun! Games like Oblivion, Age of Empires III, Civ IV, Silent Hunter IV and much more are running very fine and without Problems on it!
In my opinion it is for the money the best Subnotebook you can get -> and the fastest. Do not forget: It is the only one worldwide with a 8600 GPU in a 1.6 kg 13,3" Notebook!
Greetings, Mythbuster -
quick question, i'm going to have to buy a new laptop within the next 4months, how much do you think the price tag on the LG p300 will realistically drop during this time? -
The price may drop $ 300 in 3-4 months but nobody knows. -
I was just going to order the Dell XPS 1330, but by chance i found out about the LG 300. I got the LG almost two weeks ago, and I love it! Today I ran 3DMark06 in 1024x768 and got 3483, which i think is excellent for a laptop this size. The Screen is awesome, I dont know why they think the display is poor. It does get a bit hot while running 3DMark. But else it's very cool and quiet! Super PI to 2M took 42 Seconds...

hmmm, waiting for the official notebookreview by notebookreview. but what you guys are telling here sound very promising.

also, in case people don't know this, the LG P300 offered in ALL Futureshops across all of Canada comes with a FRENCH keyboard it's got 2 extra keys, this results in the left shift key and the enter key to be shorter. you'll definitely get used to it after awhile, but some people might not like it or want to.
i'm too used to buying stuff online and not paying tax. if I were to buy a $1920 LG P300, I'd like it to have a SSD HD, that'd be SOOOO awesome
>=] -
Well, I don't think you would be seeing that this year, unless it's with a 32G SSD
-
Yes, the annoying ENTER bilingual key was a key reason why I did not adopt the LG 300. I was making constant mistakes, and everywhere I go, the keyboard is English, work, etc.
Also, warranty wise, Dell outshines Futureshop's (LG offers only 1 year). So as a traveller, I needed something that could be fxed anywhere int he world, i.e. Dell.
However, had to let go that awesome GPU the P-300 had. But I never used it anyway except for... benchmarking.
