the 9300 is a pretty low end integrated graphics chip. the 8600 is a mid ranged dedicated gpu. the 8600 is way faster you'll feel the difference in any game or graphics application

The important question is how much graphics power do you need? Will you be gaming on the system or not?

    Summary of 8600M GT- http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8600M-GT.3986.0.html

    Summary of 9300M GS- http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9300M-GS.9452.0.html

Although the 8600M GT is a superior performer, it is also one of the nVIDIA models that is prone to fail prematurely.

8600 is better and if its a GT that pretty much seals it.

don't let the higher numbers deceive you. 8600 is a better card especially the GT series. 9300 is crap

Thanks to all - I thought its a bit missleading from Nvidia to use upper numbers for lower power... but that's their marketing problem...

The only problem is that the 8 series are prone to overheating and failure, especially the 8600GT.

No, you'll be fine. Just check your temps occasionally like any other laptop, it shouldn't be burning a hole in your pants when you put it on your lap.
