well im considering a lg s1 a acer 8215 and a toshiba satellite a100
im hooked to lg s1 cos of its sleek design and heard acer is made of less superior parts.
1. is there much diff between the intel t2500 and t7200?
2.is the gloss easily scratched?
3. anyone from sg here?![]()
-
Hi. There indeed a great difference between both processors. The 7200 is from the Core 2 Duo series (as you probably know). They have a brand new 64 bits architecture, much more cache memory, and way better electronics in general (a lot a really advanced details here...).
Is the gloss easily scratched? I must say yes. I take good care of my stuff and after 4 months using my notebook everyday, the finish isn't as great as it was. There are no big scratches, but a lot of small "lines" made my bag's fabrics (sorry if I'm not too clear here...).
What's SG? -
singapore =)
then any -
The S1 is really beautiful with it's Black Piano finish cover but a magnet for finger smudges. Also, this is the first time I notie that a 15.4 inch screen notebook has a dedicated numeric keypard (Makes entering numbers so much easier)
If you are worried about scratches, investigate Paint Protection Film by 3M.
The film is a urethane based product developped by 3M to protect car paint and headlights from rocks and pebbles. For the size of the lid, I would probably say it would cost anywhere from $15.00 to $30 CDN depending where you source it.
Once that film is applied, you can threat it exactly like a car paint, applied a coat of wax and forget about it.
Best regards from under a snowbank, somewhere in the Laurentians/Quebec

toshiya, since this is the LG forum section, we all probably say GET LG S1
I've seen that toshiba satellite a100 and it has a underclocked GPU, this means that you will get less performance. (3Dmark05 in toshiba = 3300 more or less and S1 has more than 4000, i got 4300 )
The build quality is very good in the S1, everything is comfortable, I love the touch pad (I really don't like toshiba's touch pad, they are very small) and it has numeric pad
I haven't use that acer model but I have used many Acer's notebooks and they have a lot of flex in the keyboard, thats very annoying.
The difference between t2500 and t7200 is a lot, as saorex said.
But I'll add that with 64bits you are prepared for the future. Programs, O.S.(like windows vista), graphics programs, etc.
Hope this helps.
good luck with your decision. -
I have an S1 as well, and although the lid is definitely a smudge magnet it doesn't scratch easily, at least not that I've noticed, and even smudged it looks absolutely beautiful. I'm thrilled with my S1, and most of the people who see it are impressed, it's a huge contrast with the Dells and whatnot that you see so many of.

whats flex? lol
-
Flex is what you get with a cheap, poorly designed laptop keyboard. It refers to the bending (flexing) you can feel when you type on one, and in general to flex in the unit.
If the keyboard has lots of flex it is a pain to type on, and if the unit itself has flex it is much more easy to damage, particularly if you use it on your lap (twisting can pop loose connections inside or unseat something). All plastic units tend to have more flex, although there are some high-quality all plastic models that do not. -
so do u agree acer has the btr specs for its price but less workmanship?
-
I wouldn't get an Acer nor toshiba (I don't like them acer is poor in quality and toshiba is way overpriced), if you want price/performance Asus is the perfect brand.
I was going to buy an asus but, i felt in love -
I agree, the ASUS line is probably the best for price/performance/quality. Not that the LG's are bad, but like most premium products you can't justify them on a purely cost/benefit basis. I was also going to buy an ASUS, had the model all picked out and was waiting for the C2D's to show up, then I saw photos of a piano black LG and the rest is history.

wow the f3jp owns the sg1 specs wise... DILEMMA here
-
It's true that most people who see my S1 for the first time are very impressed by its look and finish. I also really like the keyboard, the fact that there is absolutly no flex is a huge bonus in my opinion. I also love the numpad.
I decided to buy this notebook for two main reasons: it was among the first to have the Core 2 Duo and a 15.4" screen (at least in Canada), and it came with 1 GB RAM in only one chip, leaving 1 free slot (that is now used...). -
The F3jp I see doesn't own the S1. The only difference I can see is that it has the x1700 instead of the x1600 and the HDD is a tad larger. The x1700 is better, but not so much better that I would declare ownage, and the other specs of my S1 are better- I have the T7400 model with 2gig of ram.
-
Hehe same history here BrassMouse
The X1700 is better but not that much.
It all depends in how much do you want to spend, and what kind of notebook you want (talking about style), all its up to you toshiya. -
I love my S1 ...and Asus is not good...here in Germany Asus laptops are not so up and good quality
........so i bought my Lg S1 ....and I can say that X1700 or X1600....you will not see the difference!
-
well where i am the sg1 is 300 bucks more which is 200 us. but well... the design on lg is really to die for.
-
Indeed is kinda expensive but it worth it
HI guys new here (=
