    I'm pretty much ordering blindly.

To be honest, I was going to order a Dell 9400 with the Geforce 7800, but they have dropped the 7800 and only offer an ATI X1400. Plus, my prior experience with Dell has been less than satisfying - over 2 weeks to respond to an sales related email, ****ty sales experience when I tried to purchase a 9300 in the last week of December (for a tax write-off for my wife's business), horrible technical support on my wife's Dell desktop, etc. If it wasn't for the price, I would have never even considered a Dell.

Anyways, I didn't like the prices of the few other laptops with X1600's in them, and the reviews I have read on other LG's seem pretty reasonable. Plus it comes with a 3 year warranty, so that should hopefully deal with any bulid issues which may arise. Given the screen is only a WXGA, I figure the X1600 should be able to run most games at the highest setting with decent frame rates. If it was a WXGA+ or WUXGA, I would have looked for a video card with more power.

    I purchased mine from CanComputer:

I just received confirmation the order is ready to be shipped and I should have it sometime next week.

I'm in Calgary. Given CanComputer is in Richmond, BC, it should only take a couple of days to get to me when it ships.

I try to do a "quick impression" type review within a day or 2 of getting the computer and a more complete review on the following weekend, after I have had a chance to play around with it a bit.

everything that i have owned that is LG has been pretty solid, my LCD TV and Divx DVD player and even all the LG cell phones i have owned have been pretty decent... so i would expect their notebooks to be the same.. my buddy who runs TITAN NETWORKS uses an LG Notebook right now and can vouch for it.. he also told me that all the P1's he has sold so far, none have come back with any problems and everyone seems to be happy.. i hope i am too when i get mine...

You should watch the Asus notebooks, G1 (i think that's the model) is around 1700 and it is more powerful.

I think he meant Canadian. I can get the same setup at most stores for less than $1600 (most commonly priced at $1590).

I just saw another S1 model

    http://www.lge.com/products/model/detail/s1%20pro%20express%20dual.jhtml

check this one out.. the Ram's upgraded to 2 GB it's the most current LG model for S1. Again they didn't specify video card's base memory and how much it is shared. But comparing the specs again... Do you think it's worth 2564.98 CAD?

This laptop is currently sold on Canada computers btw

    http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=010810&cid=896.645

Would you guys still suggest the P1 or this S1?
