I wouldn't bet on LG releasing it here this year if at all. They just don't seem to want to make the push into the US market. Germany still has good availability on them. I bought two from HTTP://notebook.de. I also bought my R200 from there. Notebookshop takes credit cards but generally only in person or if you've bought from them before. The first time I ordered, I had to wire transfer. They do speak English if you Email them and are helpful if a bit slow and inconsistent in replying. It's not like you have an option though, they are the ONLY European shop I could find that'll export notebooks outside the EU.

For whatever reason, LG Deutscheland seems to spec their machines more highly than other regions. The Canadian P300 is pretty close but IIRC the German P300 has a few extras in it and ex-VAT (without MwSt) is right at $1800 at current exchange rates. Shipping is $150-ish via DHL.

Bear in mind you WILL need a different keyboard unless you don't mind using the German layout (Z and Y swapped, or if you change Vista to the US layout, Z and Y and all shift-characters mismarked).

This is ~$50 from http://compudatasolutions.ca. You'll need to call them as they don't have an online store presence, but they're a great source for just about any LG part or laptop you could need. If they carried the P300, Id've bought it there even if it cost more. Their support and helpfulness is just that good. Just tell 'em you need a Canadian/english keyboard. They take mastercard or visa.

Couldn't one simply pry off these two keys, swap them, then remap them?

Thanks for the information. I may may buy from one of these sites.

They're EUR 1399 which is about USD/CAD $2200. I could get them in stores for CAD $1799.

MwSt is (to oversimplify) the German version of VAT/GST. As such, you don't pay it when exporting out of the EU. So the price is €1175.63. At current rates that's US$1849 or CA$1833 according to XE.COM. I have bought two from them within the past month, so this isn't theory or conjecture.

Uh, add the GST/PST in there, sir. That would be $1936 for a machine with a 300Mhz slower proc although slightly larger HDD. German price in CAD for the machine is $1802 at today's rate. Add $50 for the keyboard. Shipping is $150 USD so slightly less in CAD. Figure $2050. Oh, and the German model has a 2 year int'l warranty. Canadian? 1 year. I think a faster proc and another year warranty is worth ~$100.

For the older model? Less RAM, more money. CAD$1799=$2050.86 with GST. So that would be the SAME price for 1gb less RAM and 1 year less warranty.

Beefman, I may purchase a P300 from the German company. I see that shipping is $150, which is fine.

How long did it take for the laptop to arrive from Germany?

I've emailed Notebook.de, shipping to the US apparently takes about five days.

My big concern is warranty. How would repairs be handled if I bought from Germany? Would I still be able to ship my laptop somewhere withiin the U.S. and have it repaired free of charge while under warranty? Anybody know? I really want the P310 or a P300, but I'm wary because of repair concerns.
