    Hello all,

I currently have a 160 GB that is fast running out of space.

I have spotted a couple of affordable 2.5" internal HDDs, and I want to get a 500GB one. I will buy an enclosure along with it, ghost the old into the new and replace; the old becoming an extra external HDD.

However I know that the replacement involves more than just screwing and unscrewing. I have read stuff about BIOS compatibility, etc, but it sounds very Greekish to me. The only thing I'm sure is compatible is size.

What do I need to look out for to ensure that I get an HDD that will work with my notebook? The one I have my eye on is here: Seagate Barracuda Hard Disk Drives - 500Gb, Electronics - kalahari.net

Thank you all very much for your assistance.

P.s. I'm not trying to promote Kalahari.net or spam you.

There no bios compatibility. Its just take out the old HDD, and put the new one in. And re install Windows. The HDD you picked will work in your laptop.

You only need to deal with bios updates if the new hard drive is not recognized properly. Check the sticky post about bios updates if you end up needing to update the bios.
