I'm strongly considering to buy the S1, but I have a few last questions

    1) On the laptop, I have noticed that there are two heat vents, one on the left side, and one on the back side. Because I am a lefty, I'm just wondering that is the heat produced from the vents hot enough to annoy you when using a mouse?

    2) What is the quality of the casing (strength and feel)

    3) I have heard people talk about the low quality of the S1 screen. If that is true, what is exactly wrong with the screen (narrow viewing angles, brightness, etc...)?

    4) Is there an retailer that sells the S1 with a 7.2rpm drive rather than a 5.4 rpm one?

    5) Is the keyboard comfortable to use?

    Thanks in advance!!

    1) the left vent is located at the top so left handed people will not be affected much. The heat is warm, but will not burn, I have tested it with gaming and there's no concern about heat coming out the vents.

    2) The quality of the entire S1 is quite good, most of the chasis is made from either glossy piano black pain or glossy white paint. The lid hax little flex but there is no ripppling in screen.

The palm rests have very little flex and are nice, same goes for the keyboard, nothing to be of concerned.

    3) The screen, has wide viewing angles and the verticle angles are better than most 15.4" laptops. One thing i did find about the screen is that it may not be as bright as you may like, but your don't hurt from being overbright. Your eyes will get used to it and you'll have no problems.

    4) Technically you can buy a 7200 rpm HD and then put it in. So Yes, but you may wanna try the 5400rpm and see how you like it.

    5) I must say the keyboard is phenomenal, it was the easier transfer from a desktop keyboard to the laptop keyboard with the numpad. You'll love it!

hey MilestonePC, when do you think the price of the S1 would drop, given the upcoming release of the Merom?

Since there was already a price drop in July for Yonah processors, the chances of the LG S1 dropping further in price is very slim.

One thing you have to remember the LG S1-M001A9 comes with a 2.16ghz and 2gb of ram, and both of those bring the costs up on the machine.

Oh, and one more question, Is it safe to remove the thermal pad from the processor, and to replace it with Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound (because I have heard that many laptops don't take kindly to AS5). Thanks again!

Do you have any news or assumptions on how LG are going to react to the Merom release? release new models, refresh current ones? etc...
    Cheers
