Hi everyone,
I bought my LG P1 over 9 months ago and so far, so good. Haven't used it more than a dozen times.
Knowing that one of the most problematic issues with notebook computers are those battery related, I tried to use mine as carefully as possible. Whenever I wasn't using the computer, I removed and stored the battery in a safe place. And always discharged it completely before a new charge. Still, I couldn't stop myself and sometimes I'd connect it to the ac adapter without the battery. Worked fine, and I haven't read anything saying not to.
However, yesterday I inserted the battery as usual, but when I connected the ac adapter, I noticed that the charging led on the front panel came on for two seconds but then switched off - as in it's completely charged (my guess, anyway). But I tried to turn on the computer, it did not respond. So the battery is in fact empty.
I booted up my system using the ac adapter (no, the cord isn't flimsy or loose), but Battery Miser (v4.0106.0508) shows my battery having 0% charge (well, it is running on ac power..) and not charging. Still, the battery health indicator seems fine (green bar).
Charging method is set to normal, and the stop percentage to "standard charging".
Can't use any battery tester programs such as battery eater, 'cause it'll only begin testing after disconnecting AC. And if I do that, it shuts down. Nice, huh?
I know the warranty only covers the first 6 months for batteries.
Any suggestions before I contact LG support?
TIA

The newer Li-Ion betteries don't require a full discharge and then charge up again, like the older Ni-Cd batteries. As a safety feature, battery manufacturers install internal circuit boards that monitor the batteries capacity and other things, and if the battery gets to low a capacity, the circuit will turn the battery off. That is to say, that the battery will no longer function, as there is no potential difference through the terminals, because of the internal circuit.
This is something that might have happened to your battery. Now, I'm not sure, but I would imagine that the battery would come with a 12 month warranty, so you may still be able to get another new one. Telephone LG, and see what they say. Hope this helps. -
Mmm I think it has 1 year warranty.

Thanks.
I called LG and they sent me a new one 2 days later. Very impressive. -
Thats good, and that 2 days to get it to you is impressive. Take good care of this battery, as I don't think you want to replace it again, later down the road. Have a look at the Battery Guide for more information.
