8400M GT and 8600M GS ... ick
What happened to the 8600M GT? -
Thats just an 8400MG, not a GT. Even worse.
I expect that the 8600MGT will be there on the replacement to the S1 series (S500?). -
I hope the S1 uses the ATI HD 2600XT... (and it might)
-
very very interesting...
i'm really thinking on buying one... but first i must be sure they will offer a (legal) way to have the os in my language (italian)
-
Emm, you could just buy Window Vista Ultimate, there you can change watever language that you like.
-
I'm pretty amazed with how notebook.de is always the first with the latest notebooks.
About OS language I did a research a while ago and was left under the impression that you could download something like language packs from microsoft for any version of Vista and change the OS language that way (even though they warned some stuff could not be entirely "translated")?
Anyway, I'd be more than happy if they allowed ordering a Vista version in English. Ramminn72, if you ask them about the OS language could you share their reply here? Thanks. -
Bye / Thanks
PS: sorry for the little OT -
The new thread should be great, i was searching for tat for a long time but the answers are so confusing... -
OK I made some research and now I can tell you that most vista versions (the downloadable ones
) support multiple languages (about 10), you can select it during the installation or even after going into control panel -> International opt.
On the M$ site they also allow you to download language-packs which should be compatible with all vista versions.
I didn't test it (I don't have vista) but should work.
If / When I will need to change vista's language I will let you know.
Bye -
1) does it have a digital video output?
2) whats the quality like - build?, materials?
3) cpu is only 2 ghz
this is very comparable to the upcoming sammy x65...but that packs a 2.2Ghz cpu.
im itching to buy, and this is supremely close spec wise to what im after. but going off the old x60plus review thats a pretty well uilt sturdy laptop with is magnesium parts and quality is pretty high on my list. would this be comparable? -
This site has the R500 for 1800cad -> ~1240 :
Why Europe is always 100 higher?

Remember our higher euro tax?

Have someone a High-Res.-Picture from the Left-Side of the R500?
-
I found a review of the r500: first part, second part, you have to translate it but the images are clearly readable.
EDIT: first image from lg site, second from the reviewAttached Files:

Thx for the Pic.
I hoped that shows an ExpressCard Slot - how i read that on a Korean-site, but it seems only a pc Card ;(
I think the left Port is the Expansion-Port-Adapter-Port. -
If i needed a laptop right now that would be the one i'd get (tempted to sell this 1-year old laptop
[but no!]), its so awesome looking. I think they weakened the specs to give it a better price. $1800CA compared to $2050CA for S1. But when I look again its really not that weakened; still has the same amazing screen, design, and they updated the hard drive/ram defaults just like the NBR review suggested, and they went with a cooler GPU just like our review suggested! 1-Up for LG imho.
Im literally drooling right now! -
I'm waiting for the S1 refreshment... my fingers are itching but i ll wait for it..
-
Wonder how long it'll take the S1 to be refreshed. Is this notebook actually available right now? Or is it just announced?
-
No announcement yet... I believe it might be because of the ATI HD2600 XT chip that made it's delay... hopefully...
-
-
The 8600GS is tat a tad weak to me... so i m skipping it...
-
At notebook.de it still says 1-2 weeks so I asked them today. They said they expect the first shippment on the 11th of June or there about.
-
That's wonderful. The R500 is perhaps my top one choice right now. -
Sorry to burst anyone's bubble. Also, this could just be hearsay, but here is a Korean website that has some benchmarks on the R500. They don't make much sense in terms of where the video card should be, so I'm not sure if its correct. http://xnote.tistory.com/2 Again, I'm sorry if the information is incorrect, but its the only info I could find about a benchmark regarding the R500. The Korean websites ( www.danawa.co.kr) that sell notebooks all say the notebook is out, but, again, I haven't found any other websites with benchmarks or even reviews. I have no idea why, unless I'm wrong and it isn't out yet.
-
Store near me (in my city, Calgary, AB, Canada) just replied to my message in which I asked about the availability of the R500, in the email they said it would be available by the end of this week.
EDIT: I just saw that site, why is the 8600GS weaker than a X1600?... -
less than 1700 3dm06?!?!?
-> I'll search for another (read: more gaming-oriented) laptop
EDIT: It should be wrong: i've just seen a pre-review of the r405 with the 8400gs and it made 1750 on the same test -
The R500 score had better be a mistake ...
-
I found this to brighten your hopes.

This score makes much more sense. I'm sorry for posting the other website. -
according to LG Canada website, there's only 1yr warranty .. a step down from the 3yr warranty of the S1 !!

And FYI, most of laptop models (from not Korean manufacturers, like HP, Dell,...) are usually more expensive (from 100-200$) than the prices from the US manufacturers' web site. -
Dealer who's like 10 blocks away from my house (I can't believe it either, tiny store..) said they'd stock the R500 by the end of this week! I'm definately going to buy one, once I do I'll at least do a mini review and do some tests and share, maybe even write up a full review.
-
Emm, why dun u try it (like upgrade the drivers ,3dmark06 it and such) in the shop b4 you buy it.
-
We really need a review, if its anything like the S1 though im prepared to be impressed.
I liked all the signs so far but we can't really tell. What I can say is the 8600gs doesn't look like an incredibly good card but it did lower the price by quite a bit. -
-
Just an update, ETA is delayed till June 28th Canada-wide. When I do get my hands on it I think I might request an opportunity for a full review. It seems to be a high demand item, the dealer got himself 12 of them and had 9 of them paid for by customers already.
-
Maybe u could ask wave to go and take a look for you. It is already in stock at notebook.de.
-
I did have a look at the R500 already.
It was right next to a LG S1 (the one with the 1680x1050 screen). The screen and keyboard of the R500 is not as good as the S1. That is all I can say. After seeing the R500 I crossed it of my list of laptops I might buy. -
Awww thats bad news wave. I guess thats what happens when they lower the price by a good amount.
I guess we'll have to wait for a santa rosa refresh S1. -
I'd like to make a request: if someone sets eyes on the LG E500, could they please leave their impressions here? Thanks.
-
The E500:
The screen is pretty good for the price. It has a better viewing angle then the Samsung R70 and also seemed brighter. The build was ok too. Nothing special but not cheap also. -
Thanks!
Does the combination silver, white and black work well? It's funny, I think it's the first time I've seen a laptop tricolor like that. -
I've had a look at the E500 myself, the back of the LCD doesn't seem too sturdy, I only slightly pressed against it and it showed ripples..
-
So have you bought it?
-
No I'm still waiting for the R500. I think I will go in and preorder that today, and wait for it to come in (ETA for it is June 28th in Canada).
-
I figured out a Korean website. Enjoy the review.
