It seems the fan on my new LG R700 never stops. While it is not too loud it is still annoying in a quiet room. Do you think this is typical for this laptop?

I've selected "power saver" power plan in Vista. The computer feels a little hot. CPU usage when idling is low: 0%-5%. The processor is T5550 @ 1.83GHz.

Just got mine, it's always on too.
On top of that, I can heard my HDD rattling a little. The noise would stop if I squeeze the plastic where the HDD is (basically on both sides of the touchpad).

Also, how is your touchpad? With settings to highest sensitivity, it's still much harder to use than other notebooks. I have to press hard to get response a lot of times, especially around the edges. I didn't have this problem with Acer or Dell.

    Hi!

Got mine today aswell. Dont feel the touch pad problem but have the fan sound aswell. This is a pretty new modell as I understand right? Hopefully they will make a bios upgrade that fixes the fan issue. Talked to a friend and he said its a common thing that they usually fix. He had the same problem with his HP and it got fixed with a new bios. Dont know what modells you guys have but I have a T7250 processor, 1680x1050 screen, geforce and tv card on mine. I really love the screen. Resolution and clearity on the screen is sick to the fullest.

I haven't used the touch pad much (I'm using a mouse) but it surely feels worse than what I've used on many notebooks. I had to increase the sensitivity a lot too in order to get decent response.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one having problems with touchpad. I wondered if exchanging it for another unit would help, and it seems now that it won't.

Mine is the one with T7500 and not TV card.

Did you guys notice that the left speaker sounds louder than the right? I think it's because the speaker (sub?) at the bottom of the notebook is on the left side where your left palm rests.

I use a mouse too and think that most touchpad sucks. Think also it´s a thing to get used to. Every computer has a different one and they all have there issues. I really love the screen and the tv card works very well even only having the small antenna plugged in. Think it works very well over all for the price. Don´t know what you guys paid but here in sweden I would have to put in atleast another 500$ extra to get something that is even comparable. I wrote to LG and asked about the bios and if there will be some fan support in the new bios. Got the answer that there is nothing available at the moment but that they will have a look at this issue.

What do you guys think of the machine otherwise except the issues you got?

Coming from using a 5 year old Acer TravelMate 800LCi (15") here is my impression:

+ Vista Home Premium that came with it runs faster than I expected. I've seen vista run really slowly even on new PCs
+ not much unwanted software that comes with the laptop
+ Not too heavy for its size
+ Compared to Sony, HP, etc, good price for its features ($1600 inc. tax in Canada)
    + Gbps ethernet
+ no annoying blue LED on the cover like the R500
    + not too thick
+ speaker sounds good compared to my Acer
    + integrated camera
    + HDMI out

    - HDD noise
    - speaker volume not balanced (left seems louder)
    - touchpad insensitive/dead area. The worse I've used (I've used Acer, Sony, Dell).
    - keyboard has some very small keys (eg. right shift, enter, arrows etc). I'd rather they shrink the keypad size because it's a separate entity and would be easier to get used to.
    - audio ports in front, gets in the way if I have something always plugged in
    - left control key should be the leftmost key, not the 2nd leftmost key
    - battery life is short

I think this is because the subwoofer (or whatever the .1 is in the 2.1 spec) is located on the left hand side of the notebook. I still have not found a way to disable this speaker.
