Hi,
so i bought the S1 and have been extremley pleased with it. I have just one question regarding the heat - only place the notebook really heats up is the part where the memory is, is this normal? It gets quite warm after just normal use...
Thanks in advance!
-
yes it's normal
-
Well that sucks
Its almost as hot as my last notebook wich i got rid of. Though I'm glad the hot spot is in the center of the notebook so it doesent bother me as much and i can still use it on my lap. -
I'm not so sure this is normal. My S1 does not heat so much during regular use (work tuff, internet etc) only if I'm gaming.
-
I also have a heating problem. I've had my notebook for about 9 months now it gets way hotter than when I bought. I'm pretty sure the fans and other inside parts are totally full of dust. I'm looking for a plan to open it right now... If it's not too riskful, I'll clean everything I can. I'll let you know if it solves the problem.

Mag07
Leave it open for a day or so then feel it even if it is idle this area will get worm… -
Hmmmm,
I thought for sure i had my memory module installed on the bottom bay of my s1, cause recently it was getting hot , really hot to the touch..
but i opened that part up, and there is no memory there. just the wifi card etc.
so could that be causing so much heat?!? -
Nope, try disabling it, wont do anything

bo3adsa, my laptop runs 24/7, and yes it does get warm but not hot during regular use. Agsu said his S1 really heats up in that spot that is why I'm suprised
Saorex, while gaming the laptop gets much hotter now then when I first got it but I do clean the laptop inside on regular bases, (it amazes me how much dust can accumulate during just a few weeks) and that usually helps reduce heat issue to the minimum. I just take the keyboard off and blow everything out with compressed air. If playing more demanding games I use a cooling pad. -
Well, mine definately gets hot eaven in relatively light use (copying images over wireless), even more so when i got it plugged in. When using on battery i can still have it on my lap but now this is getting quite unconfortable.

What program do you use for power managment? Maybe you should play around with the settings. I use NHC, dynamic switching, there is no need for the laptop to run at full speed all the time. Maybe adjusting that will cool it down a little. Can't think of anything else. If that doesn't help maybe it would be worth it to call LG service and have them check it just in case. That is if you have one near you.

I dont use any, and from past experience they dont make that much of a difference. I also dont think there is anything wrong with my machine, im just a bit dissapointed since i was expecting a really cool laptop after all the reviews. Nonetheless it is still cooler than my last machine and otherwise im really pleased with it.

I guess "cool" is a relative statement. I'm simply suprised you can't use the S1 on your lap while working on it. I can.
-
You mean when you have it plugged in and actually do something? It gets probably to about 50 c, i can use it but its not that comfortable.
EDIT: Maybe adding extra RAM would help? The memory compartment is the only part that really heats up, and those who have 2 gb of ram dont seem to complain about the heat. I mean vista uses so much ram... -
Hi,
sorry i keep posting but is an idle temperature of 60 c normal? -
On mine it's 45c in idle state, 50-55 during regular use, and max recorded was 87 while gaming. That is why I'm a big fan of cooling pads
I do have 2 Gigs of Ram although I'm not sure how does that affect heat.
-
I use nhc and ati tray tools, the temperature without tray tools is about 51C and when I underclock the video card (~130,140) it drops to 41C. However I find that when I have nhc on dynamic switching, any intensive applications still run slowly even on the highest multiplier and what not. Perhaps that is just the way it is?
I tend to use the laptop on my desk at home and to reduce some of the heat from the memory I have the laptop elevated an inch or so (like some thin blocks) and turn on a fan if it starts to get too hot. Seems to cool things down quite nicely.
Also, I'm using xp. -
Try cleaning dust out of your computers. (compressed air/vacuum/air compressor) I blew some dust out of mine because it was getting warmer every week and then hotter every day. Now it's running nice and cool again. (And I didn't even open it up to clean it since the small philips screwdriver here at work was stripped too badly to take out the screws.)
