Finally I have managed to play some game on my S510. Playing Need For Speed: Shift is fine as after alt+tab to desktop temps are around 80, 85C at the most. Maybe 90C, but I am not sure. This is both playing over my knees, and playing with the laptop standing on a table. So far so good![]()
And I was really amazed that the 9600M GT @ 1440x900 played the game a lot better than my desktop 2600 XT at 1280x1024. I thought that both cards would be comparable or even have the 9600 behind the Radeon. Got to try some more games.

New Update: Well my internship report is done so I have a little more time. This was a simple update. I just wanted to confirm that the new Bios wasn't crippling the CPU or GPU. I repeated the cinebench and 3d mark 06, both with positive results.
The temps are good but the GPU reached 91~94 while on 3d mark 06 test, need to test a real game to gather a little bit more information. I'm also going to install some flavour of linux on the machine, I'll report the results later. If you want me to test some specific distro, leave a sugestion here.
Also, added a new Con the high temperatures. S510 has great performance, but the temps reach a bit above what I call "the comfort zone". -
Merlin you say that all the LG support guys did was update the bios? So you overheating is sorted? Where can I get this latest bios? without obviously going to LG support... Thanks this thread has been very good !!! -
Ok further feedback,
I installed software so i could see exactly what temps i am dealing with and this baby is a timebomb!!!
At idle she sits around 60-62 Deg. Celcius... Played a quick race of Flatout ultimate carnage probable around 5 mins or so play time on High Performance(Battery Miser) setting and fan speed in NML... Quickly quit the game and the temp. was at 95Deg. Celcius... OMG!!! surely this is not normal at all... The fan is certainy working and made sure all ventilation was left unblocked..
Are you guys experiencing the same temps???? -
They cleaned the air vents and ugraded the bios, but it was the vent cleaning that made the difference. My trouble was mainly in the CPU wich would reach extremely high temperatures without apparent reason. The GPU as a consequence also got high temperartures. Still my GPU is a bit hotter now than on the original tests, I reached 94ºC on the 3d mark06 test. -
Hello,
does anybody have the EMRDSF14 BIOS for S510?
Could someone upload this version?
Regards,
sapphire_pro -
Merlin, Can you please upload the EMRDSF14 bios? The BIOS can be easily read with the included flash tool (SwinFlash). Simply select "Backup BIOS only" and specify a path.

Hello merlin3000 and everybody else,
I am another [almost] happy LG S510 (-X.CP20P) owner, the problem is, I'm experiencing battery issues on Windows 7 (error message "consider replacing your battery" and decreasing battery life) as described in this official Microsoft thread: Windows 7 and the battery error "consider replacing your battery" (Part 9). A lot of laptop users are affected by this issue and currently there seems to be no "general" fix.
My question is, do you know about a particular fix for S510? Maybe a new BIOS will help? I have an old version EMRDSF0A, what about EMRDSF11/EMRDSF14? Here Microsoft gives links to new BIOS's for some LG models that should fix the issue, but S510 is not listed. -
I'm not sure about the Windows 7 bios fixes that Microsoft posted. The link they have for the P300 F20 bios actually takes you to the F19 one. I doubt the bioses I've posted above will fix your battery issue. That is a far bigger and more nasty thing that I hope will be addressed in time, but as of right now Microsoft are still insisting it's your fault. LG are useless when it comes to bios updates, and being able to get your hands on them, so it's rather ironic they seem to be the first to have "fixes" for the battery issue. Really though, it's not LG that are fixing anything, but rather stopping Windows 7 from nuking your batteries. Time will tell what happens on this, but it's a huge huge issue, so I have no doubt class action lawsuits will be happening soon. -

Thanks, but what are we supposed to do with those .imc files (not .iso!)? Google won't help... -
The fact you are asking how to use these files, then tells me you probably havn't flashed a bios before using a dos boot disk. I'll try and make an .iso for you so that it should be as easy as booting off the cd and entering in your model number. Have made a few attempts but the lg bios update cd batch files are a complex thing to dissect.
If you have flashed bioses before from dos, you'll need a true dos boot disk, not just the command prompt from within Windows. Once you're in dos, you can flash the bios with this command.
ph161700.exe /x /FORCE /O /C /S <NAME OF BIOS FILE>
For some reason I can't post links anymore, but you can find the ph161700.exe file on the forums.mydigitallife.info website under the Bios Mods section.
Otherwise hang tight and I'll come up with an updated .iso for this bios file. -
Why don't you try this modified .EXE I made.
http://rapidshare.com/files/378666681/KM_LG_BIOS_Setup_S510_EMRDSF14.rar
This is the proper .EXE from LG for version F11 which I have modified to now have the F14 bios.
Now please note I can't guarantee it will work flawlessly for you, but I am optimistic that it will. Make sure you have created a "Phoenix Crisis Recovery Disk" as well as other safety measures that should be taken. More info on recovery methods can be found here http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/2105-BIOS-Recovery-procedures

Hi I have the F11 version and unfortunately your EXE says that it has the same version and thus won't replace it. I'm guessing the exe from the F11 section doesn't see the bios as different.
-
Thanks for the feedback Knivez. I replaced the bios file inside of the EXE file with F14, but it seems the checking part isn't aware of the newer version. I'll have another look at it to see what I can do, but most likely you'll have to then update via command line option.
-
Remember that the cd is going to show up as "blank" in Windows once you've burned it, as it's a DOS image and thus loads when you boot off the CD.
So first, download the ISO here - http://www.rapidshare.com/files/411227326/KM_LG_BIOS_CD_S510_EMRDSF14_beta001.zip
Then unzip, put a blank cd or a re-writeable cd in the drive, and double click on the GO.BAT file. Once burned, change your bios settings to boot from the cd. Let me know how you go -
-
If you still need to flash your bios, grab the latest version of the BIOS CD which is LG_BIOS090127. -
Is this Bios f14 compatible with windows 7 64 bit?
I ear that is not compatible with 64 bit systems!!!
Thks -
anyone know where to purchase a replacement S510 battery? Or any other model that shares the same battery as the s510?

Hi, i have problem with overheating in my lg s510
when i turned os to windows 7 it started to overheat even when i do nothing on it. There is also problem with some drivers for w7. I don't know what to do. i upgrated bios but it didn't help. Sometimes GPU temp reaches over 90 deg. ;/ i don't want to get back to vista or xp.
Plz Help -
I flashed the bios with Bios F14 from here: â Namsik's Story â :: LG Xnote S510 (System BIOS Ver F14) with Poenix WinPhlash 64 bits from here: Phoenix WinPhlash64 v1.0.0.49.rar in windows 8 64. Everything went as predict. The verification of integrity went alright too. After flashed, the program asked to shutdown. So i did it. then i pressed the On button and the laptop never worked again. Neither the screen turns on, neither i heard the hdd start. The only thing it does is the dvd player check for a disk.
is there something i can do to reflash by myself? any force flash by cd or usb, as some laptops do? -
As far as I know, you're going to need a NAND programmer. Not exactly a novice operation to manually reflash your bios that way.
