    Hey guys,

I'm trying to decide between an LM70 and an IBM T42 15inch screen.

From the little I've read, the LM70 seems to be a very nice machine, even though I've never heard of LG before. I'm trying to learn more about the LM70, but I've seen very few sites with reviews of it. Do you know of any reviews or have any opinions on the machine or the company?

From the specs, the LM70 looks nice, but if I don't learn more about the reputation of the company or machine, I think I'll have to go with IBM. I guess I'm just risk adverse that way.

I'm going to be traveling with this quite a bit, so mobility and reliability is important. I know the LG70 is lighter and thinner than the IBM T42. But I've heard the T42 is really robust and unbreakable. The t42 also has that thing that parks the HD when you drop it.

How would you compare the screens? I would be satisfied by the t42's screen, but I wouldn't mind a nicer one.

Wireless access and reliability is extremely important to me. How good is the LM70 wireless card and antenna? Is it b/g? I'm going to law school where ppl depend on wifi access. I cannot have my internet connection drop out during exams or something. I heard that some notebooks have poor built-in wifi reception, where connections are intermitent or where the speed drops drastically and abnormally as you move away. I'm not sure what wifi reliability is dependent on: the power given to the antenna, the location of the antenna, the length of the antenna. All I know right now is that IBM won't have this problem. ANy of you have extensive experience with the LM70 wifi ability?

One more thing. I've always hated touchpads. I like the red pointer better. However, my only experiences with touchpads is with Dell. How is LG's touchpad? it's not THAT big a deal. I could always get one of those really small mice.

Thanks for your thoughts! btw, I live in toornto, canada. Where's the best and/or cheapest place to buy it? Any educational discounts?

Personally I would go for a LM70...a good place to buy it is at
lgstore.ca you get 3% off b/c you're a student. you should contact JEFF at lgstore.ca and ask him how strong is the LM70 he will tell you that you high school kid in Niagara drop it from his desk and the laptop only had scratches...it's made out of the same material as the T42 also...it comes with standard 3 yrs warranty...

Just FYI, LG actually makes the thinkpads for IBM.. so if you are going based on reputation, it's pretty much the same thing :)

I haven't used a LM70, but the LM50 has excellent wireless range and strength.

I have one on display if you want to drop buy and install some programs to try it as far as I am aware this is the first notebook to have a Sata hard drive in Canada. I had a large hard drive company in the US Purchase some units recently for testing of there sata drives. This is the best unit I have ever seen or used I am still putting it through its paces so far it is outstanding. I do have educational pricing available also. for more info visit www.tabletpc.name There is also service in the US for the notebooks now.

Hi all. I have seen and used the LM70. It is really flat, it has a strong quality and is one of the fastes notebooks I have ever seen. Because it is completely and with all specs based on the new intel centrino, called sonoma, has one of the fastest RAM, better than other notebook manufacturers. Someone said me, that LG produced and designed Notebooks for the most successfull manufacturers like IBM, HP/Compaq and Apple, so dont worry about quality and reputation.

As LG is one of the largest LCD manufacturers you should even dont worry about the screen, I think for theire premium notebooks, they can choose the best quality from their factory.

Wireless: After looking into the specs, you can see that LG uses Dual-Hexa-Band antenna, developed from LG for IBM => dont worry about that.

All in all, a stock analyst wpuld say: STRONG BUY!!

    see ya,
