    HI guys

i just want to comment on a few things that i dislike about the LG LW70 laptop, although its a really good investment.

the first thing is that: the cdrom is set as primary slave... who one earth now puts their cdrom on primary these days. the problem with it being on primary slave means that the system is going to slow down/pause when eva u want to write a cd/dvd... which really sucks!!!!!

another things is that: the harddrive is IDE and not SATA...gzzz..

    and the screen reflects alot...

and y did LG put CMEDIA sound cards? this laptop requires CMEDIA 9880L drivers, which is still not available in LINUX(yet) and trying to contact CMEDIA is an absolute nightmare... they are so ineffiecient.

other than that... this notebook is worth it... although i bought it a cost price about R12 700 in august 2005, which is about $2,300, however for people buying it at retail price... maybe you should first shop around and then look at this LG laptop

    cheers

    Hi

The LG LW 70 is a powerfull laptop. so far, i have enjoyed it very much. i use gentoo linux on it and had no problems configuring the hardware... it works like a beauty.

the graphics card is awesome (128mb dedicated) which is great for games and graphics design/rendering(development)
it is a brillant tool for website development.

im currently using it to develop my website and i love the fact that it is a 17" so that i have a wide screen...

the cons are few to the pros... i would get it... but try get one with a SATA harddrive... u will enjoy it

    cheers

I'll probably get an LW75 (I'm guessing it has the same specs as the LW70 apart from the graphics card and the hard drive) soon but I have to order it online and it feels a bit risky buying it without looking at the screen first.

After searching the web for while i've discovered that most people seems to like the screen very much, but is it really that good?? The backlight is only 200 nits, isn't that pretty weak?? I thought most notebooks had at least 250 nits. I think the Sony XBRITE has 400 and there's an Acer (model: 9502WSMI) that has 500 nits(!).

Speaking of the Acer 9502WSMI... has anyone seen this notebook? At first I was thinking of buying it instead of the LW75 since it's both cheaper and has brighter backlight, but it seems like not a single person in the whole **** world owns one! I've been searching the web for hours... there are no reviews, no forum posts, NOTHING! If anyone owns an Acer 9502WSMI or have seen one in store, PLEASE E-MAIL ME! I'd really appreciate it.

Finally a couple of questions for the LW70/LW75 owners:
    1. How many colors does the screen support? I'd like at least 24-bit color depth.
    2. Whats the screens response time?

I went to futureshop last nite, i saw the LG Lw60, i must say i was impressed.

Regarding the Screen, it was nice, was glossy, really bright and clear, awsome horizontal and verticle viewing angles.
Unfortunately i didn't test the brightness on other levels.

Then i checked it for Flex.
This is wear the model faild... there is alot of Flex on the Screen... multiple ripples. THe LID is cheap plastic.
I checked for flex on the palm rests, there is flex if you press hard, but if your palms are on it you prollly won't feel the flex.

The keyboard was ok...it had the numpad too..but there was a little bit of flex and the keyboard was definately not the most comfortable, but i guess you can get used to it.

In order to access HOME, END, P up, P Down, you would have to press FN and then arrow keys, i think that slows my word editiing process by alot, since i use the home and end key alot.

Then i lifted the laptop at each corner, it felt sturdy, no flex.

In Canada, i used the Quarter and a Toony to measure the thickness, when the laptop is open, the front is a Quarter Thick, the back is a Toony thick, then the LID is 1 cm thick.

To my hands there was NO HEAT... the laptop must have been running on power for about 2-3 hours... no heat anywhere on the palm rests, keyboard or touch pad. (FYI I have a high tolerance to heat)

As for noise.. well i was mainly looking at the build quality for that model, and since Futureshop was noisy...i could not tell whether it was making noise or not.

With the unfortunate plasticy feel of the lid and poor choices of materials for the Lw60, i was not happy.

I personaly want to check out the LG P1 Express Dual, which will be released tommorrow, but i have a bad feeling it will be just like the Lw60 :( in terms of quality.

Overall i was not exactly impressed, I cannot reccommend the Lg Lw60 for anyone, just get an aSUS Z70va instead lol.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

My LW70-DBJA is about to go back for repairs after the MB dying for the second time in 6 months!! Pity, it was a replacement for a dud LW60-DBJA which was sent for repairs 4 times before it was replaced. Lucky I have another 3 weeks of my 12 month warranty left.

Don't know if I would buy another LG...
