    Hi guys,

first of all i want to introcude myself. I am a science student from germany.
Warning to all people who are not familiar with basic electric. Lithium-Ion cells can be dangerous due to faulty handling! I am not responsible for any for any consequences due to this manual.

I was quite unhappy because my original battery turned out to be defecitive just after 1 1/2 years. Of course no warranty (only 6 months ). I am also active in a german forum, there are several people who have the same problem like me!

Because a new battery for my LG P310 Tarsia costs about 200$ (156 € ), I decided to change my faulty cells on my own.
After opening the battery case ( no problem after all ), I found standard Lithium-Ion cells type 18650 in there. 3,7 V and 2600 mAh each.

Because it is a 6 cell battery, there are always two cells arranged parallel and after all connected in series. So it has 11,1 V and 5200 mAh.

After searching a while, I found identical cells: Samsung SDI ICR18650-26 Li-Ion Akku 3,7V 2600mAh
Here in germany it is not easy to buy Lithium-Ion cells, because they are declared as dangerous good. But there is a store which is selling them, but you have to sign some papers that you are aware of what you are doing ;-) And the store is not responsible for any bla bla bla

    Here is a link:
    www.batt-energy-shop.de - Samsung SDI ICR18650-26 Li-Ion Akku 3,7V 2600mAh

    Each cell costs 7,10 € ( about 9 $ ) with u-connectors. That comes to a total of 60 $ with shipping ( 47 € ) for a new battery.

I recreated the orignal battery arrangement and solded on the cell balancer.

I am running the second day with the changed cells. For now i reach a battery duration of 2:15 hours in idle. Maybe the duration increases after some more charging cycles.

The windows battery meter does not recognize the battery right. It is just displaying that the battery is full. This is because of the cell balancer. Normally it has to be reset so it recalibrates the battery.

But this is no problem after all. The battery is charging normal and also stops charging, because the electric stops when the voltage is higher than 12,4 V.

Here i show you some pics:

Maybe does anybody know how to reset the cell balancer? In bios there is no function to recalibrate the battery. I also searched in the expert menu ( Expert Mode: Strg - Alt - F7 ) but there is no option.

    English wasn't bad.
That's pretty nifty, would make home battery replacement/repair quite feasible if controller would reset. Glad you found a solution too, not a lot of LG parts flying around. I would imagine the controller has to be reset in factory.

    Hi clone63,

for now I have a battery duration of 2,5 hours ( after five cycles ). Thats quite cool! ;-) Maybe this increases with more cycles.
It would be awesome, if I could reset the controller. The controller has a http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/bq20z70.html installed on it.
Maybe I could try to change some values, but I think this is improbable.

For my surprise windows started recognizing the battery. Seems like the controller is recalibrating itself by taking new data of the new cells. It's totally faulty, because it mixes them with the old cell data ;-) Maybe it gets better with more charging cycles.

After all, it's totally worthwhile! Just 60 $ and 1 hour of work instead of 200 $. It was no problem to open the battery case without damaging it. So it still fits without jamming

    I have installed a battery tool named Al-Batterie: http://www.akkuline.de/Blog/post/Freeware-Software-fur-Notebook-Akku.aspx

For the last charging cycle it measured 4420 mAh capacity. This is about 85 % of the original battery capacity. Quite cool. I hope this will increase but maybe the electronic ( cell balancer ) is blocking it. But I am happy ;-)

    Hey,

i've got the same problem and I'm also from Germany. Sounds good with your new batteries! My question is: did you also buy a "Lötfahne"? I'm not well versed in electronics so I need a little bit more help :)

    Thx

    Hello,
thank you for your thread it's very good.
I have now a problem with my battery life which last now 15min ! A day to another it went from 1h15 to 15min ??????
I wanted to buy a new battery but I can't really find where to buy it.
    Your solution is quite interesting.
I was wondering what kind of cell can I buy, because the one on your link are not available any more. Put a 3000mAh is good? Is 3.7V mandatory?
    Thank you for your help
