I just posted a thread in the "what notebook should i buy" section and was advised to ask LG users on the LG notebook i was thinking of getting.

basically i'm looking at the LG R1 which is priced at $1300+ and the specs are:
    - Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5600 (1.83 GHz)
    - 14" WXGA Fine Bright Screen
    - 1GB DDR2 RAM (667 Mhz)
    - 100GB SATA HDD
    - Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 (64MB, up to 256 Turbo Cache)
    - DVD Super Multi Dual Layer (Removable)
    - WLAN 802.11 a/b/g
    - Bluetooth v2.0 +EDR
    - Dual Hexal Band Antenna
    - Dolby Digital 5.1 +24bit High Definition
    - 5-in-1 card reader
    - 2.46kg
    - 6 cell battery
    - MS Win XP Home
    - 3 years international warranty

i'm not sure if i should go for it seems LG seems like a relatively new competitor in the notebook industry. however, the R1 does seem pretty good and fits right in my budget for a notebook for school work (mostly for microsoft word, internet usage, the occassional photoshop/illustrator and warcraft) and what i really need is just a notebook that wouldn't crash on me (which my old toshiba TE2100 did frequently).

it's really a toss up between the LG R1 and the HP dv2000t but the price and specs for the LG model is better, though like i said, i'm just not sure if LG makes laptops of say a better quality than HP.

could anyone provide me with any advice or feedback perhaps? cheers! :)

As far as I know, LG isn't exactly "new". They just haven't always sold them under their own name, and they're much bigger in Asia/Korea.

From what I've heard, they're supposed to be very good quality.

So far my LW-40 seems to be a lot more solidly built than my Dell Latitude D600. It's maybe not entirely fair to compare a 2 week old machine to a 2 year old machine, but there's definitely things like the case barely flexes at all on the LG compared to the Dell. I have to get used to using 2 hands to adjust the screen angle, because if I just push on the screen the rest of the laptop comes with it (as opposed to the Dell where I can "bounce" the screen a couple cm with my pinky) :)

The R1 is a brand new model that isn't available everywhere yet. It looks like it might be meant to replace the LW-40 though.
