hey ennoia, well at least you've had the LM50 for some time now, so I wouldn't have too much buyer's remorse if I were you. Besides, use the new processors as an excuse to upgrade when you get the urge [
]
thanks for the link, some more nice looking notebooks there from LG. -
Will this model lm 70 be customizable? And do they ship to the US cheaply? Also when will the order be sent out if I pre-order it? Sorry for the questions, I really like this model.
-
Call the number on the spreadsheet - Ask for Jeff, he was very helpfull when I dealt with him.
I don't work for the company, so I can't answer any of these questions.. and abaxter, definitly no buyers remorse.. I'm still loving the LM50 ;]
Perhaps when they put out new notebooks utilizing the replacable video cards on the (distant?) horizon, I'll sell my LM50 and buy something new... That should give me a year or so ;]

I'll be sure to, along with a lot of pictures. When looking into the LM50 I had a hell of a time finding any higher resolution photos. Just got word back from Jeff not an hour ago, he managed to reserve me a unit from a small shipment that should be in Canada this week.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I notice the new notebooks have made an appearance on the LG global site (http://www.lge.com/catalog/prodsubcategorylist?modelCategoryId=&categoryId=CTG1000651&parentId=CTG1000439)

I saw this notebooks and fell in love...
I was considering te new "s" from sony but the geforce go6200 TC hold me back.....
I mailed Jeff asking if he ships to holland and he is actually considering it.... I hope so because LG is not going to release anything here before 2006...
i consider the new LM70-PKMU1 or LW60-DBMU1 i think they are allmost the same 15" or 15,4" but the LW60-DBMU1 has less Vram .......
Any advise or info is very welcome...
Ow and thumbs UP to jeff !! [8D]

Just to clear things up a bit, there are quite a few differences between the two models you're looking into. The LW60 is a Pentium M 740, not 750. It has the same video card as the LM70, but half as much VRAM (as you mentioned.) The native resolution of the LW60 is lower than that of the LM70. (1280x800 vs. 1400x1050) Its hard drive uses the Parallel ATA interface instead of Serial ATA. Its warranty is 2 years shorter. (This might be a benefit to you if the Canadian warranty is invalid in Holland.) It's 6.2mm thicker and 0.5kg heavier. Also, I can't be sure on this, but from what I've read the LW series is using polycarbonate ABS and not magnesium alloy for the casing. On the plus side for the LW60, it features InstantON, allowing you to watch DVD's and listen to music without actually booting into Windows. It comes with a Super Multi Drive, which burns every DVD format on the market right now. It has a full keyboard, including number pad. And, of course, widescreen.
Best of luck getting one to Holland! Jeff was great the whole time we worked things out, and is even keeping me up to date daily on the status of the laptop. (It hit LG Canada yesterday.

Guys our pixel policy is a total of 6 pixels missing and we will sell extended warranties on the LW product in Canada. You will be able to upgrade the regular 1yr warranty to a total of 3 years.
-
stupid pixel things, i would hate to buy any laptops over 3grand and it came with dead pixels honestly
-
i've known some people that have actually one through the trouble of taking it to the better beraeu place etc, and provin the dead pixels are a manufacture problem with specified research. if i bet u could complain enough if u get dead pixels and do some research i bet there is enough on the net. i mean even samsung has recongnized this that it's a manufacture defect

Sweet!
Does it still have the wifi indicator lights on the top right of the monitor?
Thanks!
No they have moved it to below the screen, and I also checked for some one else asking its only a 4200RPM 100G drive...well thats easy to fix...

I haven't found any retailer that is going to carry the LM60.
(offtopic: does LG-Man still post here?) -

are there canadian retail stores in windsor that will sell the new LGs?
-
Most Canadian retailers will ship anywhere. What I have found is that very few large chains carry LGs meaning no demo models. Compusmart is a relatively large chain in Canada (well medium sized). So if you take a road trip, they are yourbest bet to see the LG models in person without having to buy one.

gosh thanks. i'm in the united states, so i don't know canadian cities very well. i haven't ventured much but i have a break ahead of me and roadtripping may not be all that bad. i'm in michigan so maybe i could hunt down a retail store with the new LG's.

well this is a canada question rather than an lg question then...
are prices generally higher at places like compusmart?
if anyone knows a city near windsor that would have lg notebooks in retail, i'd love the help.
i'd probably save $50 or so dollars just driving there. i'm not sure if the lg's have small enough of a footprint for them to allow me to be mobile. i already have a desktop, but i do want a mobile solution with the sonoma chipset and a respectable vid card. i know lg does odm for thinkpad and i want similar build quality without paying thinkpad prices... that and i love me some korea. :-D

Hey Davids,
I've never shopped at compusmart so can't be sure on the pricing there, but it might be more expensive for you to purchase it here. You'll have to pay duties on it at the border. -
Compusmart is good only if you want to see the LG build, I wouldn't buy LGs from them. I only say this because at the store I went to their LGs still had the banias chip in them (well the advertised L2 cache at 1).

http://www.superiorcomputers.ca/ are in London Ontario and that's about an hour and half east of Windsor along the 401 highway. They have 2 locations and the south London one is not too far off the 401.
If this works for you, speak to Shawn at the Masonville location, he's the salesperson to whom I've been talking.
