Firstly, a big thanks to ennoia on these forums for his review of the LM50. It was the deciding factor in my purchase decision. A second thanks to him for referring Online Electronics, Inc. to purchase from. I got Jeff and he's been great so far. I don't have a credit card and he's actually going out of his way to set it up so I can do a wire transfer to pay for the laptop. Unrivaled service. I was going to order the LM50, he let me know the new models will be out soon and sent me a spec sheet. I was at first weary of posting, as LG themselves don't seem to have announced these yet, but I found a korean site with the specs too, so I know the info is already publicly available.

Other information I've been able to dig up is that all are based on the Intel i915 chipset, all processors have a 533Mhz FSB, and the casing (at least for the Wide models) is Polycarbonate ABS.

I won't be posting prices, but they are definitely within reason and are not much higher than their 3rd generation counterparts. My only decision now is between the 15" Premium or the 17" Wide. I just don't know how if I could carry a 17" laptop around easily. I've been able to find some pictures of the wide model.

You can buy these new notebooks from onlineelectronicsinc.com (lgstore.ca, same people)

For the Sonoma's it's a preorder, but there is even a pre-order discount rate :)

I will post the details in a minute

    Hi
    Nice Topic [ :)]
In my idea LG-LW70 look likes better but it is heaveier too(~0.7kg),because it is 17 inches.
I wanna know if a wide LCD is suitable for working with graphic softwares such as Corel Draw & Photoshop or not? If the fonts & icons look like normal or skretched?
You know watching 4:3 films on a wide TV (16:9 mode without black bars) make pictures to be skretched and people look like fatter!
So how about playing games which are not made for wide LCD & have their own ratios like 800x600 ... how about the icons of windows?if they look like more skretched? Also how about internet and home pages ?how they look like?
Finally what's the advantage of a wide LCD except its better ratio for watching DVD without letterbox?
I've heared that wide LCD is good for someone who works with more than one program at the same time , because its more space for multi-windows.

    Regards[ :)]

wide-screen LCDs do not stretch anything. They are natively supported in XP and the resolutions are adjusted accordingly.

Btw, I am an LG Electronics dealer myself here in Canada. The new Sonoma models are in very limited supply. I currently have a LS70-DGJU1 (Proformance LS) on order for myself.

We'll see about a review. I would't mind doing something up so everyone gets an idea of how the new Sonoma models work. A few high-res shots wouldn't hurt either I suppose :) I'm just going with the proformance model to save myself some quid.

FYI, MSRP for the LS70-DGJU1 is $2399 CDN.

And the non-compete agreement LG had with IBM for the US market expired 01/01/05. Not sure if that was general knowledge or not, but it should help open the floodgates.

I'm just really keeping my fingers crossed the battery life is close to what the previous models were. I ordered the 9 cell battery as well, I'm hoping I can get close to what the one reviewer got out of it on the LM50. (5-8 hours depending on load.) DDR2 uses less power, but PCIx takes up more. Also, they're not advertising the 6 and 10 hour battery life like they were with the previous models.

I got the LM70-PKMU1 for $3150, I think $50 or so below MSRP.

Do you know if LG is actually shipping to the US? I know of a few people in the US that were after the LM50.

LG itself was not shipping to the US as of Dec 2004 due to the non-compete agreement with IBM.
As for what's planned for 2005, only LG knows.
