Mine lasts 7 or 8 hours in linux under light usage.. if it's being used a lot that changes to 6-7 hours

for the breif peroid it had windows installed, windows reported 10-12 hours.. but I never used it in windows long enough to see what it would really turn out to be, my guess is that it would be around the same 7-8 hours. I believe the 10 hour claim LG makes of the 9 cell battery is if the laptop is not being used (10 hours is what my battery remaining indicator will say on a full charge, with the screen at full dimness)

this is of course with the 9 cell battery, I'm not sure about the standard 6 cell

the LM50 is a very queit notebook, they use heat piping to reduce the amount of fan activity.

oh man the ls70 looks hot.

does anyone have any opinions on the build quality of an lg laptop in general as compared to a thinkpad?

The magnesium case is nicely done. A few ripples on the outside of the frame around the display but nothing major. A small ripple where the keyboard insert snaps into the frame, but again no big deal.
The bottom is painted magnesium, a gray metalic and nicely done also.
Keyboard is excellent on par with IBM. HD is very quiet, display is great. The new 70 series look to be just as nice and they are lighter than the LM50 series!
