I really want an LG gram because I watch a lot of 4k tv shows laying around and it's on a crappy macbook 2012 air screen, so it still looks better than 1080 but it's not what it was meant for.
When I start looking at 17 inch native 4k competition they're mostly gaming and heavy and much more expensive.
Does anyone think there will be a new LG gram in 2022/2023 and it should probably be 4k by then?

Typically, they put out the new models when Intel comes out with the next generation chip, so after that gets released is when you're like to see a new Gram 17. As for a 4K screen, your guess is likely as good as mine as to whether they'll offer one. Of note is that 4K notebooks tend to drain the battery more quickly than FHD LCDs if you care.

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll wait, I assume the previous lg grams have been succesful as they are so unique, I don't mind the battery I use my laptops plugged in, they really should go 4k but yeah, nobody knows.

They will probably keep the 1600p 16:10 display, it's plenty good enough pixel density for 17".

Yeah it seems a great laptop, I love light laptops, but I just want to watch 4k as it should be, it's only a few months until new intel chip comes out, there might be announcement, if not, looks like i'll go for dell xps 17, but not get carried away with fomo and turn it more powerful than I need it.

It could be true though that the XPS 17 panel is more color accurate, though I never looked into it. I am really pleased with the Gram 17's panel (I have a older model not sure if it's ever been improved) and 1600p is a great balance between pixel density and performance. -
I also want to do some coding so a bigger screen would help, and windows 11 looks to be nice maclike and I prefer macos. -

I think I'm going to go for an xps 17, it's only 2 pounds heavier and I use on a cooling pad anyway so I don't feel the weight, maxed out refurbs go on sale at bestbuy sometimes, a real powerhouse at that price provided it doesn't break.

You really aren't the target group for a gram. And saying your pixel mess on the MacBook is better than standard 1080p screens is laughable.
Unless alder lake or next Ryzen generation solves the huge CPU power draw of high resolution screens (it's the CPU /GPU not the screen for largest part responsible for the increased power draw. Easy to test when running your 4k screen at 1080p.resolution or even 720P..
For the first time since ages I'm envious of MacBook Pro hardware.. -
i think you misunderstood, I never said my macbook is better than FHD, I said it sucks but whatever scaling it's doing, 4k videos do look pretty good on it and better than FHD-.
Anyway, XPS 17 for me it is, and maybe a macbook pro in a year or two. -

The main reason reason 4k videos look better is not the scaling, it's YouTube and Co. Going overboard on compression. 1080p BluRay on 1080p screen for sure looks better than YouTube 4k. Mostly the same for a 4k screen!
The first good screen was the 2012? MacBook Pro retina ones. Also the current MacBook and MacBook pros have very good displays. Better than gram, but I need a bigger display, plus lighter package. Battery life is comparable since M1. Need to wait for intel and amd to catch up. Low power use M1 just trumps x86. Not sure if they need to to arm too, I guess big.little concept well done is enough. Arm is more or efficient, but I would prefer sticking to x86 for some more years. And definitely cannot use something that drops 32bit support anytime before maybe 2027...whoareyoufrom? likes this.
Predictions, will there be a new LG gram 17 and will it be 4k?
