Hi
i am a new member in this great forum ...
and i am planing to buy LG S1 ...
i loved this beauty so much ....
but whoever i ask, tells me : LG ... nah ... it's not good in laptops .. don't think about it !
---------------
so i thought asking who used it should help me ....
I have to say .. that i am a tough user ... I DO NOT SHOW ANY MERCI to the laptop ...
maybe I'll leave it running for days ...
* My basic uses ::
PS CS 9
Ulead Media Studio 8
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004
LOTS AND LOTS OF MOVIES ALL DAY !
THE BIG QUESTION IS ::: is S1 a good -24 hour- friend for me ?!!
-
I had mine for over 6 weeks now and find everythings fine.
I do run it 12 to 18 hours a day at times for different functions.
I love the numeric keypad like a desktop keyboard and the 3 year basic warranty and with the use of a premium credit card, you get a fourth year of warranty for free.
Best regards

I'm very very happy w/ my notebook, I bought it like 3.5-4 months ago.
I don't have any regrets at all.
I do leave it running for days downloading stuff and I haven't had any problem. The notebook doesn't get hot.
You will be happy w/ this notebook -
I bought it about a month ago. Very nice. I've left it on for a few days without any problems. I carry it in my backpack for school which usually entails running for buses and some jumping around, I've also played video games hours on end and it still runs like a pro(so far...). Only thing is when you order it make it a point to ask for a version with an expresscard slot. They advertise the S1 as equipped with either with an expresscard or cardbus type II slot...but I think so far everyone has been getting the older card type. Other than that, if you're willing to shell out the bucks, I would definitely recommend it...however this is my first laptop so I don't have anything to compare with.
Also, from what I gather on these message boards, LG updates are few and far between, but as someone who's been running windows xp without any service packs till just recently, I honestly couldn't care less.
My decision to go with the S1 came after spending a lot of time comparing notebook specs and found that other brands often come out to be even more expensive or they are lacking in some crucial area. The only other contender that made me second guess myself was the Asus G1 but the S1 in my opinion looks much more classy. -

thank you very much

"The notebook doesn't get hot"
that's a good thing .... thanks -

whats the difference between expresscard and cardbus ?
and how do I make sure the laptop has either one of them ?
last Q .. ! what are these slots for ?
thanks -
Those slots are for expansion cards like tv tuners, sound cards, extra usb slots, and I think just recently better video cards via docking station. Point is Cardbus is oldschool and Expresscard is the new standard (smaller, faster, and all that junk). ExpressCard info
I looked around canadacomputers and ncix and did not see an option to choose an Expresscard model. I thought that the S1 pro Express Dual would unquestionably come with an expresscard slot but it didn't. So perhaps you could e-mail the company from whom you'll be ordering from and see if you can get it that way or just contact them somehow because I'm pretty sure there isn't a box to check for it. -
Oh .. nowI know what your talking about ...
thanks allot -

"The notebook doesn't get hot"
I'd say it does.. If you play games or anything more intensive than the regular web surfing, then this the temperature will rise quite quickly. I'm running Vista, which is more graphically intensive than XP, and I've noticed a rise in the base temperature. Don't get me wrong though, I still love the laptop! -
I've had it for 8 months now, no regrets whatsoever. One minor drawback is that the lid scratches very easily
On the positive side:
-has the best keyboard and touchpad I have ever used on a laptop,
-performs well in games although it does get hot while playing more demending titles- I've purchased a cooling pad and that has solved the heat issue.
-it's beautiful -
kensuke
so u only complain from temperature ? -

Ahh, yes kesuke I'm running vista too, but it doesn't bother me at all.
I forgot to tell about games, I'm a gamer so I've tried almost all the new games and it's been perfect. Indeed it get warm while playing very demanding games for a while. But who plays for a long time w/ the notebook on his lap? I think no one, it's always on the desktop. As i said it get warm for your lap if you play but it stays in a safety temperature. (It never reboot or something)
But still is one of the coolest notebook that I've tried, and a very silence one. -
Hrm, maybe something's up with mine, but I find that when I play games for a while, it gets a little too warm on the fingers (particularly over the ASDW area of the keyboard, near where the cpu is). Although I am using a Core Duo, not Core 2, but I didn't realise there was a big difference in heat generation. I'm jealous now.
As for Abosaad, yes, heat is the only thing that I'm not 100% happy with, but I'm guessing it'd be the same issue with all laptops of this power in general. Otherwise, it's a beautiful laptop and I wouldn't go for any other one. -
awesome:
pretty
keyboard is beyond fabulous
fast
white keyboard!
not so hot...
it gets hot (lol)
go play oblivion on this beast and put a cup of tea on the left fan outtake and you'll have a nice hot cup at all times
slow harddrive, its the drag of the system in my opinion
take off that plastic cover and u'll never see beauty again -
-
got mine 4 monthes ago and cant be more happy with it...
I keep mine running few days (lazy to shut it down).
No heat.
No noise except ticking sound from the HD (160GB).
I'm gentle with it.
Cover easy to scratch so it's better if you cover the laptop with a smooth cloth (I use towel) when curried around.
Very catching look at the airport many eyes gazing at it than at the other laptops. -
One thing that always confuses me.. When people say 'doesnt get hot', do they mean it doesn't warm up at all, or do they mean it doesn't become unbareable? Because those are 2 very different things.
-
^^
Dont be confused
The top of the laptop is alwayes cool (doesn't get wormer than the room temperature no mater what your doing) but of course under it get pretty WORM when using it heavily (gaming for example) but still acceptable to keep it on the lap.. -

Thanks
sorry for being late -
squall0110, the hard drive isn't slow
. The gap between 5400/7200 is big in numbers and in my opinion does not make that much of a difference to the average user. I have changed the hard drive on my desktop and to be honest don't see any substantial performance increase in everyday use. To make things short, S1 is worth every penny it costs.
-
Indeed, there isn't much performance difference between 7200 and 5400. In fact a lot of people(me included) do prefer 5400rmp in notebooks, because 7200 gets hotter and it uses more battery.
S1 users come on here and tell me how u feel about it?!
