I've recently bought an LG S1 notebook and i've got a few questions.

    1. i also have an LW60 (will be giving it to someone else soon) and when i keep the two laptops together i notice quite a difference in the screen brightness between the two. asked the sales people and they said that both the screens were the same (fine bright) but the S1 was "thicker" therefore we felt it was less bright. just the screen quality almost made me keep the LW60 instead of the S1. my question is: is this screen quality typical of all S1's or might i have gotten a defective piece?

    2. I want to change the OS from XP home to XP pro. I've got a licensed copy of XP pro but i want to know if all the drivers that need to be installed can be taken from the lg update cd. are there any that get left out? will i need SATA drivers for instance? and if i do where do i get them and install them without a floppy drive?

    1. Are you sure you have the screen brightness set to maximum? When I got my S1 it had some power saving profile set in the battery miser, and the screen looked a little dim, I manualy adjusted the setting and it's wonderfull now. Also try the color adjustment sticky http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=25959. The one thing that really annoyed me was the dominance of blue, I played with the gamma settings and now I'm very happy with my screen :)

    2. As for drivers, all the necessary ones are on the cds that came with the system, but I suggest using the LG Inteligent Update to get the updated version from their website. It works like a charm :) For graphics try Omega instead of the catalyst - my 3DMark05 went from 3838 on ATI's original to 4170 with Omegas :)

ok...so i tried installing winxp pro on my S1 today but after the initial copying of files etc i got the message that the installation couldn't proceed as no hard drive was detected!!

i'm assuming i need to do something ..install some drivers etc (SATA?) before i can get on with installing a new OS. this is something new for me so i'd really like some easy step by step how-tos on how to go about doing this.

    thanks in advance!

Just go to bios and change the HDD to compatible mode instead of enhanced, no drivers needed. After full xp install, revert to enhanced again. That's all ;)
