Uh... huh... Photoshop, Paintshop, Poser, 3ds Max and Maya alone would've costed many times the price of the notebook itself...

I guess the touchpad is a personal preference. I find it fine and of a suitable size. For the hard drive, its agreed that a 7200 RPM would better suit a notebook like the S1. I'll probably buy one aftermarket and swap it out myself.

I do believe your 3dmark score is the record for the x1600 ap27

why do you think this is?

Actually Stamar i think i saw another in the Asus W3J thread about ATi overclocking who has a score of 4887. That would be the highest :)
502-Core/504-memory was the max i could take it on normal cooling. ATi Tool started artifacting if i changed any higher.

EDIT: Yea it is. 3DMark06 as well :D

the only bad thing i found in S1 is the location of the touchpad it should be a bit to the left so we wont touch it while typing its a bit annoying

The LG S1 comes with a 6-cell battery that will give you about 2 hours on normal use (max brightness...wifi on...music playing..). You could bump it up to around 2:45 if you use Notebook Hardware Control or something to underclock your processor and video card, and turn down the brightness.

There is also an additional 9-cell battery available for around $250 US (yea its expensive) that will stretch time to around 4 hours.

Agree on the touchpad, its a little misplaced. Although i use an external mouse most of the time and set one option to disable the touchpad when using a USB or bluetooth mouse. :)

    Hello guys and gals,

I am contemplating to buy the S1-M002A9. I like the specs and seems to be what I need. Moreover, form what I could figure from LG website it DOES NOT have a glossy screan, but a matte one. Personally I dislike glossy screens, so this is even one more reason to buy. I just want to have a confirmation from you that INDEED S1-M002A9 has a matte screen and how would you rate the screen, compared to other laptops you might have owned. Thanks a lot!

Edit: One more thing; did any of you try to install a Linux distribution on S1?

    @ 31337: Yup...using Omegas 3.8.291 (Catalyst 6.9 i think).

@ Moose: Yes, the S1-M002A9 comes with a WSXGA+ matte screen with a native resolution of 1680x1050. There is another S1-P402A9 that comes with a 1280x800 glossy screen and less RAM (1GB). I find the screen is perfect, although there are quite a few laptops out there with higher brightness levels. I dont find the brightness levels uncomfortable. The screen is certainly better than my old Dell 9100. Hardly noticable light leakage and no rippling if you press on the back of the lid.

Sorry for this sudden question, but has anyone been able to automatically downclock the GPU when not in use through some sort of software?

Moose, yes S1-M002A9 has matte screen.
I really like the screen of my notebook. Sometimes in the computer laboratory in my college i compare the notebooks screens and only the vaio's screen are brighter than LG's.
And the viewing angles are very very good.

    bye.

That's correct we sell LG laptops and others to both USA and Canada, they can be found here and here respectively.

Here's a review of the LG S1-M001A9 which is the Core Duo, the C2D is M002A9 and is also very good.
