Hey guys just a heads up, the p310 is now at futureshop, although it seems less advanced than the one availible form the german website.
-
The Canadian version of the P310 is quite disappointing. The 9300 is a low-end GPU compared to the 8600. I think that most of the the time the Canadian P300 will be a better performer. The only advantage of the P310 is the 64bit edition of Vista.
-
I'm pretty disappointed aswell, I was hoping to pick one up this year but would prefer the old p300. Perhaps they'll refresh later this year.

How much is the price?
-
$1700 Canadian
-Peter -
That kinda sux.
-
Yeah, lame. You can find refurbished P300s on eBay for $850 USD or so.
-
Frankly, for 1700CAD you can get one of the new Dell XPS Studio or a nice customized Sony laptop with way better specs.
-
Hopefully, the higher end LG P310 will be introduced in Canada in a bit.
-
Ugh, my Asus a8js died on me without warning last night (my computer savvy friend says it sounds like a power surge got it.. useless surge protectors!) and I'm trying to decide whether I can afford to cough up the money for an LG P310. The fact that it's not offered in the U.S. really worries me (for warranty purposes) but I think I'd go for it if futureshop would offer the 9600 version. I may just go for the refurbished P300 instead, though buying a laptop on ebay kind of scares me.

wow at that price what kinda good stuff is futureshop smoking? A 9300gs notebook.....for $1700? HAH! Im thinking maybe futureshop/bestbuy realize that heat may be an issue therefore they are playing it safe.
-
that's rediculous ... it will likely take months for Future Shop to get the 9600 version ... i'm going to call LG Canada in the morning to see if any other retailers carry the 310 with better spec's...
-
Can you keep up up todate if they do have the 310 with better specs?
-
i seriously doubt they have that foresight. it's just life in Canada more than anything- lack of competition, gauging, ignorant public that will pay absurd prices and rationalize it with something stupid. it's the same way our cell providers operate.
-
it's the same LG they had in there last year, which they cleared out at $1399... makes no sense ... I was waiting to buy the new 310 too at the higher spec's ... it can't be had in Canada.

You know i made the comment on the price and i wont take that pic but heres my thing.....
Why on earth does it cost that much? a notebook like this should only be about 1 grand for those specs even in canadian heck maybe $1200 tops theres no way this thing is worth more then a studio XPS 13
when i went to future shop they have portege M800 that was REALLY nice and not much worse the GPU was a X4500 but it was only $800 it also had a gorgeous screen i couldnt justify paying that much.....if anyone here is interested in that model id wait it out because im sure they'll realize that eventually that the price is too much when no one is buying it...
You right A36....canada.....thats why i shop online and not in-store heh. -
the LG P300 and/or P310 BLOWS the Dell XPS away in every respect, quality, screen, keyboard etc etc
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Quality that is a tossup until both are seen together
Screen another toss up(they both have awesome LED screens)
Keyboard well the 13 has a backlit keyboard so it gets the edge
-
I had the P300 before, had it stolen and missed it so much because of it's small size, light weight and processing power that I decided to get the P310 from Future Shop (Canada). Surprisingly, I prefer my old P300 over the new P310 for the following reasons:
1) The P310 is made in China, vs the P300 was made in Korea (bought it in Asia though). The build quality and feel to it is just not quite the same. The P300 was sturdier and finishing just was a tad better. Not to take anything away from the P310 because it's still descent, but the P300 was tops in quality. Does anyone know if the Asian version of P310 is made in Korea?
2) Everytime I start up the laptop, the harddrive light is continuously on for the first 10 minutes. There's no processes running, but the hd keeps on running, draining battery and motor life. Anyone have this problem?
3) The Canadian version doesn't have Turbo Memory, the startup on the P310 (P8400) is slower than the P300 (T8300).
4) Battery life on P310 is about 30-60 minutes shorter than P300.
I do miss the old P300. -
its some the same from the german site...
-

that sucky to hear Dimples in terms of graphics performance(with the 9300) in real world how does it compare to the P300?
-
That's ridiculous, they'll have to make upgrades soon to warrant the price, or lower the price, or hope Future Shop shoppers are slow ... I'd rather have a P300 too but the sounds of things ...
Question: What other manufacturer makes a notebook with similar spec's to LG's P300/310 series? ... LED screen, HDMI port, thin/light ... not a Sony Z even is a good a pc imo ... -
ok so ive had the p300 for about 4 months now and ive had several problems. First, I take good care of my laptop, and use a case and laptop bag. The bezel on the screen has cracked in 2 places, only the black part has cracked, not the cover. Also, the AC adapter seems to have come apart, i can see the metal wiring. Lastly, the paint on the keys are coming off as well, i am quite disappointed. Should I bring it back to futureshop (still under warranty)? Will they need to send it to LG or can they order the parts. The thing is i need it for school, so i Do not want to send it away. Any advice?
-
Which country was your P300 made from? Mine was made in Korea, it felt solid and could handle a good beating. However, my P310 is made in China, and it doesn't have the feel of the P300. Just wondering if different countries have different qualities.
-
i just noticed the paint scratching off my p300 keys too, what's that all about? ...
-

the sony Z is awesome
The only one who comes close is Dell Studio XPS 13 you can get a nvidia 9500 in it so thats a plus
-
The nvidia 9500 in new studio XPS 13 is just a renamed 9400M + 9300m GS so graphical performace wise it should be below 8600m gs but above 9300m.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
what..are you sure? That explains why they dont show you how much VRAM this thing has is there any reviews on its performance yet?
-
he is right, except it will be a 9200m card not 9300 for the integrated graphics. there are no performance reviews yet but i have a hunch it'll be closer to that of the 9400 than a real 9500 gpu.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yeah you are probably right..........so this is actually like the thing ATI has where the 3450 + X4500 cooperate and give you a higer 3dmark/3d performance. .....ok thats cool though.
-
3450 + 3200
*cough... Intel and AMD aren't friends, fyi. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
lol i know that but there have been intel integrated and ATI together i think on the Vaio SR
3450 + 3200 see, this is what we were suppose to have on AMD neo platform
-
Lenovo also has ATI discrete and Intel integrated GPUs but they won't in tandem to boost your scores...

i was just checking out the R310 but i didnt bother posting a new topic about it Apparently it very similar to this notebook except it has a ATI 3470 and it looks really really nice
sadly, AGAIN the LG R310 available in canada only comes with a weak processor and a Weak GPU(X4500)....figures -
this isn't just particular to LG or Future Shop, although the latter is slimy in its own right. but Canada seems to be tech dumping ground for manufacturers to sell off last years processors and platforms while commanding premium prices, and stupid Canadians buy it up.
check HP's, Toshiba's, Sony's, LG's and to a certain extent Dell's Canadian sites. it's all either last year's junk or a very watered down version of something better being sold elsewhere like the p310.
i hate to say it but the only company i can think of that doesn't do that is Apple. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
apple that is very true.
the one company that i want to throw in there and the one company i have alot respect for is Asus. Sure its more money here but when they come out they have the same specs as the american counterparts. Im not sure about msi, i only recently moved to Canada.
But im shocked that TWO 13" LG's in Canada have watered down specs. I actually liked the R310 it has a really nice Lid and the design is nice but i cant settle for that X4500 -
Couldn't agree more with that. You can add Lenovo to that list...hard to find Ideapad on the Canadian website and when search for it no pricing for that series available.
Apple truly is an exception to that rule. And of late, Dell has been pretty respectful in that regard...all the new notebooks hit the Canadian websites pretty much around the same time as the US ones. -
yep, Lenovo/Lenovo Canada is also guilty of it too and it's a shame because they make such solid notebooks. it just seems so dirty keeping a largely ignorant public perpetually upgrading more often.
you're right Dell is a little better in this regard, but there is still a bit of lag between what's offered in the USA and Canada. some options aren't available to Canadian customers till much later, especially around model refreshes. -
I am looking at a R310. I can get one with a T5800 cpu, 2gb ram and 250 hd for $899 cad. My friend can get me a P8600 cpu cheap along with a good deal on ram. I am not a gamer although I do encode videos from time to time but I can use my home computer for that. My other choice is a Asus F6v-A1. I want a small light weight laptop for when I travel. Portability and price are my main issues and the R310 seems to fit the bill. Another day or two of research and I will bite the bullet and purchase a laptop.

For what you are doing i would recommend the LG R310 it really is a solid notebook
