I love Ubuntu except that I am not being able to run the above two things, my Wifi and nVidia 8400GS Graphics card.

Broadcom I suppose has released a driver and I presume it has also been added to 8.04. I updated my system completely today but it still doesn't seem to work.

nVidia Drivers installation is reporting a 'Kernel Interface not found' error. Is there a way around this?

I have searched and searched for the better half of the day but whatever suggestions I find are pretty complex for a novice like me. Thanks for your replies in advance.

    For the Broadcom, try ndispluginwrapper.

    For the nVidia, try Envy.

Have you tried the b43-fwcutter? It works well on a few broadcom chips I have tried it on.

Have you looked at the restricted driver manager? That should let you enable the NVidia drivers and the broadcom ones. You shouldn't need to download the nvidia drivers. Linux isn't Windows... you treat it like it is, and you'll run into problems.

I think it is as mentioned on the Product Specifications page for my laptop

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...10&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3629813

If I am then why on earth am I not seeing any Wireless networks because I presume the Intel drivers for one are added as default to a new install? I certainly cannot see any Broadcom drivers in Hardware Drivers despite my best efforts.

Firstly extremely sorry for all the confusion. I have solved all my issues. nVidia was solved using EnvyNG(although I am now told I need not have installed it as it is already included in Hardy) and Intel Wireless issues using 'Wicd'. Yes I actd very dumb by spotting the wrong Wireless Card(weirdly enough there are Broadcom Drivers installed on my Vista setup ;)).

As for Windows being similar to Ubuntu? Yeah I always knew they were different. There has got to be something that makes all these Distro so very stable! :D Just that I am knowing the exact differences now.

All in all thanks for your replies folks. Really appreciate it.

Broadcom drivers in Vista are probably for the Bluetooth.

Rado, Try out Compiz-fusion, very cool eye candy.

Awfully happy to see you again Flip! :D I came to know about Hardy Heron and its great features after coming across one of your posts. I tried hunting you down before posting here but then it turned you had been absconding from this place for a few weeks. :(

Great to be back here. Have been pretty busy with Joomla development these past few months.

Yup you right about the Bluetooth drivers which apparently started working at first go once the installation was complete. lol

Lastly I need to tweak my boot screen in such a way that Vista is the first option instead of Hardy Heron. Is there a safe way to do this without screwing things up? Also I have noticed that in case I hibernate Vista and Boot into Ubuntu I cannot access the drives. I presume this has something to do with Vista's insecurity?

Also how stable is a Dual Boot? I noticed a freaky shutdown while I was enjoying more research work in Ubuntu. Weirdly the Laptop just simply shut down. :( What could this be? I am a little terrified by this.

Lots of questions guys. Hope I can get the answers to a few at least. ;)

Gosh that Compiz Fusion Demo YouTube Video looks really good. Now to install it and test it.

You can use StartUp-Manager to have vista be the default boot OS and you can change the delay time to boot and how the boot screen displays. If StartUp-Manager is not listed under system > administration you can get it thru the synaptic package manager,
or go to applications > add/remove.

Yeah long time no see :)

If you want to dual boot, you can use Startup Manager. Its very easy to use and set. You can set the default OS, Timeout, add a boot password, change the resolution. I did it via this way and its very safe.

Ive been dual booting ubuntu/vista for a while now, good combination.

Weirdly I never got a notification for this. :(

Anyways on first sight this seems to be a Program for Windows that does it. I presume that at this point of time Ubuntu is managing my Startup i.e. Booting options. Can this program still control this flip?
