    Before starting with linux/using it, I can recommend to read these excellent guides;

    Linux is not Windows, to understand the linux mindset.
    The Linux Starter Pack, a 130 page beginners manual to get you started rapidly.

    Reading those 2 will help you understand linux and avoid problems and irritation. :)
    Cheers.

    Most hardware drivers for Linux are included with many of the major Linux distributions, so you don't need to download Linux drivers first. You need to download a Linux distribution Installation CD image file, burn it to a CD, and then boot your computer with the Linux installation CD. Then you can install Linux on your laptop, and it will include drivers for most of your laptop hardware. If you need to do additional installation or configuration to make sure that all of the hardware on your laptop is working correctly, you can usually do this after you have installed Linux. Again many of the Linux distributions provide software programs to assist you in downloading and installing the additional drivers.

    By the way, if I were you, I would contact Acer again and let them know that Acer India, sold the 3680 with Ubuntu Linux installed in 2007. You can read about it here and here. If your local Acer contact can't help, you can look at this webpage, or this webpage, for Acer India, and you can see email addresses you can use to contact them for more information. (Maybe they can provide you with a Linux Installation CD for the 3680) You can also read this thread at the Ubuntu User forums, or this blog post, to see 3680 users discussing installing Linux on their laptops. Finally, if you are looking for a Linux distribution recommendation to use with your 3680, as described in all of these prior posts, I would suggest looking at Ubuntu as well.

    Good Luck..
