Just a little for poll for all of you (K)Ubuntu users out there... curious to see which version(s) you're all running![]()

Nice poll, Aurora! I like the multiple option thing.
I'm running 6.10 and 7.04 (Herd 4). I'm just playing around with the Alpha release, not really using it.
-
I've had 6.10 for a weeks now and I love it, except for that kernel/driver bug that's causing my HDD to click on shutdown/hibernate. Other than that, I think it's awesome, stable, and a joy to use.
However, until I can find a way to resolve that bug, I've really been considering installing 6.06LTS... I don't think the same bug is found in 6.06, but I can't totally confirm that yet. I've tried the LiveCD of 6.06 and it seems quite similar to Edgy for the most part. Graphically it's a little less pleasing, though... especially the bootup splashscreen. -
Ubuntu 6.10, Edgy Eft here
-
Kubuntu 6.10 here.

I've got Breezy on my web/mail/shell server (actually an old 800MHz p3 laptop), and 6.10 on my laptop and desktop.
-
Ubuntu 6.10
Code:~$ uname -a Linux ubuntu 2.6.20-9-generic #2 SMP Mon Feb 26 03:01:44 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
-
currently running edgy on my desktop, though as soon as I recieve my laptop next week I'll throw feisty on it.
-
ubuntu 6.10 Edgy on my inspiron 8600.
ubuntu 6.06 LTS on my 7.5 year old dimension desktop. -
7.04 Herd 5 currently. I was running 6.06 up until I reformatted my computer this weekend.
-
Dapper just doesn't work for me... whenever i boot up the CD, it gives me errors every now and then... and then when it actually loads, I can't do anything with Gparted. It just can't seem to run properly...
Edgy works alright though. -
ubuntu 6.10
when 7.10 comes out, if i upgrade, will i lose all my stuff? like will i still have my drivers, and settings? -
Usually, it's recommended that you do a clean install of each upgrade rather than upgrading through the update managers... so if you back up correctly, you should be able to keep most of your stuff.
-
If you've used a lot of unsupported apps and scripts (such as Automatix2), you'll likely end up with a broken system upon upgrading. It's best just to do a fresh install.
-
I never had a problem with Dapper to be honest. I actually prefer it over Edgy because of the fact that wireless doesn't work out of the box in Edgy. That's really the only reason, but it's enough for me to choose Dapper. I usually have to install my operating systems at home, and all I have access to there is a wireless connection, so if I don't have my wireless working out of the box, I get the shaft.
-
Wireless works out of the box for me... not full functionality, but I can get it to connect to my router. I just enable eth1 manually and enter in my SSID and pass key... next I know it, I'm connected. Then all I have to do is install network manager to connect to other connections around me...
I really wish I could use Dapper
-
Isn't the network-manager/knetworkmanager package on the install CD, which is by default set up as an apt repository? You should be able to install the system, then install one of those packages (they'll be default in 7.04/Feisty) and get it up and running. It's a much nicer networking solution than under Dapper.
-
Is it? I never noticed. I always just ejected the CD as instructed and got to working in the OS. Well, that's my bad. I guess I stuck myself with Dapper for no reason. I always installed network manager in Dapper as well, but that's when I thought I need a connection to install it. Since I couldn't get my computer connected in Edgy I went with Dapper. I was missing out on FF2 all that time.
But seriously, one thing I did miss in Edgy that was in Dapper was the four workspaces by default. Edgy just gives you two by default. I'm not sure if you can change that since I didn't really use it long enough to find out. But that was something that I missed. Luckily, network manager and 4 workspaces ARE included by default in Feisty (at least in Herd 5). -
I'm sure you know this ftw - right click on the workspace area, and click preferences. You can alter the # of workspaces there. I myself like two, one for work and one for random other stuff - and sometimes another (3rd) for web design activities...but that's usually part of work.
-
Running Dapper cause it's more stable than Edgy for me.
I'm about to give Feisty a try on my Desktop.
I started at Breezy. Never used Warty or Hoary.
