Is there a way to adjust screen brightness in ubuntu. when i press the Fn and arrow keys my screen brightness doesn't change.

also, when i go to change my desktop wallpaper. on a site like interfacelift for example. i right click and select set as desktop background, nothing happens though. i have to save the pic to my computer and then set it as my desktop background from there.

    any ideas? thanks

What type of laptop? Mine worked out of the box for my T61.

As for your wallpaper problem, I don't know.

Like Tailic, my laptop (Compal IFL90) is supported automatically. The thing to do would be to google for your laptop model and "brightness", etc. Problems with those keys is very much laptop-specific.

I have no clue about the other problem.

Hi, I have a similar notebook, Inspiron 1501. Mine doesn't work either, but I know there is a way to do it via the command line(which, actually is easy).
    Not sure.

Hmm. Strange. For me, I have my Inspiron 1520 (same notebook as a Vostro 1500) and the brightness works right out of the box for me.

Vostro Guy, I'm not a Dell owner so forgive what may be a stuipid question: what type graphics does your machine use? In the event it's nVidia (which may be the case with Thomas), the following can be used:

    Applications, Add/Remove

If not nVidia, the info in a thread with a similar question may be useful. See post #3.
