    i have and HP laptop and i installed linux ubuntu
    can any one please point me to a good guide on how to install nvidia 9600 m gt 512 GPU driver so i can use linux graphical effects

    That's an info guide for people who want or need to install the drivers manually. Or people who want to know what's going on when they do it the "easy way."

    I had a similar problem, the restricted drivers wouldn't install...
    you have to enable the repositories in order for the restricted drivers to download, install, and work.
    I can't remember how or where i did this now,... but the package manager----> preferences---> third party software tab seems like a good place to start looking.

    i enabled restricted drives and my 9600m gt now works
