I just got a laptop with an ATI 5830 card in it, and I'm sad to see that this card is not (yet) supported by the binary ATI driver. if I install the driver, I get a small watermark in the bottom-right conrer of the screen saying it's an unsupported hardware, and indeed, 3D performance is quite low.

as AFAIK technically this card is based on the 4830, I wonder if the driver really needs something new added to support it. maybe its just that it is not listed in the driver as a supported card?

did anyone make such a card work under Linux?

It does need an update. There are a few things different about how it interfaces with the system due to it supporting DX11 and so on.
